I believe unmarried people are under more stress in a way. If they are single they are worrying about getting with somebody if they are with somebody they are wondering if this is the right one. If people are married they are worried about financial problems and hoping they won't get left by their partner but they always have that vow that they are suppose to uphold (which fails so much) and should always have someone to confide in. So I think that both are susceptible to mental disorders but unmarried people might be just a very little more susceptible.

They say this is so from research results.
But we must be careful nor to rush into conclusions . Is it the single life that leads to increased mental disorders, or is it because people who remain unmarried are less well adjusted and therefore under greater stress in society?
Unfortunately psychology is full of problems like that, and "fools rush in, where angels fear to tread".

No, married folks just cover it up better. Think about it, you share a bathroom, and a bed with another person. Actually you share everything whether you want to or not. Who would drink out of the same glass and not be grossed out, finish someone's frenchfries? They even finish each other's sentences. And those names, 6'5 guy being called snukums in public and he smiles..?This has got to make you crazy and when you have kids, that's it you get shoved over the edge. Look at people cooing at babies and talking jibberish, you're telling me they're stable?

I say, No. Single people are happy too and live fullfilled lives, sometimes more than married people because they have less stress to deal with due to no long term commitments. Single people only have to worry about themselves. Plus there's more problems to deal with in a marrage that's why we have a high divorce rate here in America. And it seems that the women are the ones that suffer from depression, nervous breakdowns, suicidal, or even commit murder against their husbands (SNAPPED on Oxygen Channel). EVERY woman in my family that was or is married are mean, bitter, unhappy, depressed, have poor self image about themselves, low self-esteem, and some were suicidal.

Modern thought is that mental problems are due to childhood, genetics and stress. If a person has a mental health issue, they are less likely to get married. So whoever did the statistics, is ignoring an important factor.

don't know for sure, but i would make a guess that single people may be more susceptible because they may not have someone close they 100% trust to discuss their issues and feelings with? one of the great things about marriage is the 24hr, 7days a week support system from your partner.

I think it might be the reverse. Married people are united as one. That's double the insanity
