I'm fed up with the tabloids and their obsession with bad news is news. Would any of you like to see a newspaper that ran with good news stories like, "Rent boys buy pensioner new hip replacement" or "George Bush grows prize turnip"?

Absolutely! But only if they were interesting good news stories like your examples above! It would be total snoozeville just to read about sanctimonious do-gooders!

No there isn't. Unfortunately, most people buy papers to scare themselves stupid. If good news sold newspapers, they would all be full of good news.

Sadly when a headline is something good, most people will look at it, smile and think, ah good news for a change, and walk on by feeling a bit better, but they will not buy the newspaper.

If a headline screams SHOCK! HORROR! CRISIS! people stop and buy the newspaper to see how that might effect them personally.

It is sad, but true.

Before I retired last December, I owned a local community weekly which was a 'good news' paper. We focused on the positive elements of the community, and left the big metropolitan dailies report all the murders, rapes, and other garbage. -RKO-
