I read mine fields will be placed along the 700 mi. of new border fencing, I think it's a great idea, but I'm concerned about the areas that won't be mined. Does anyone know which areas will or will not be mined ?

I read a story on this in a wildlife protection newsletter. It said the mines would be in a "Buffer Zone" along the new fence, but eventually span most of the length of the border. The concern is that Wild Horses and Burro are at risk.,

NEITHER... I think it is a obscene waste of taxpayer money. I'm for big time fines for all individuals and organizations that hire illegals. The revenues would go to pay salaries for the border patrol...including bonuses. Wouldn't that me more simple, create more jobs and be highly effective? No expenditures on our part...no new taxes would be created.
Who is being protected here now? The violators!
Why can't all those elected officials come up with a cost effective method? Obviously it is because they don't want too. Some lobby group.. probably "Haliburton" ...will get the big bucks fence contract and be back in the pockets of YOU and me. So, nothing changes because there are no surprises where money is concerned.
Don't forget to vote on November 7th...it's your only chance to speak.

You know very well no minefield will be laid on U.S soil anytime soon. So your agenda for mentioning this is questionable. Although I agree a more aggressive approach other than a fence needs to be taken. Heck, the most defended border in the WORLD between N. and S. Korea has people who smuggle back and forth from time to time, so even the mines there are not 100% successful.

There will be other areas deignated as "hot zones" but their locations are being kept quiet for obvious reasons. I read a news letter boasting huge profits for a Chinese munitions Mfg for the sale of 750,000 mines to the U.S. in Sept.

I don't think there will be mines. Though I think it is a good idea.
