what were the reasons for failing?

Four, but I got there in the end! I failed the first one because I'd only ever had my dad teaching me and had never had a proper instructor (big mistake!). It was a nightmare because I literally turned out into the road from the test centre and accidentally flicked the windscreen wipers on. I got so flustered that I stopped in the middle of the road to turn them off rather than checking my mirror and pulling over to one side so I had failed my test before I even set off. My 3-point turn turned into a 7 point one too so I also failed on this and my use of gears was also wrong!
On the second test a few months later, I'd had some proper lessons but I did a total one-off and clipped the kerb as I turned left at the end of a road so I failed on that.
Test three was nearly perfect until right at the end I had to reverse around a corner (something that became the one thing I just couldn't get right for ages) and my back wheel went up on the kerb. I begged the examiner to let me do it again but he told me to get myself off the kerb safely and drive on, so I carried on reversing to try and get the wheel off the pavement. It turned out that I failed the test purely because I had chosen to carry on reversing when all I had to do was look in the mirror and drive forwards. I was so nearly there though - it was really frustrating!
At last I passed test 4 and was considerably calmer for this one. The only minor faults I had was that I was a bit hesitant at a roundabout and a junction. The best advice I can possibly give, apart from hope that you get a nice, friendly examiner who'll put you at ease, is KEEP CALM. It is a cliche but is so true. Have a relaxing drink before you go and take a few drops of Bach's Rescue Remedy - my secret weapon. It keeps you calm in stressful situations but is purely herbal. I worked in a chemist at the time and after I'd passed, I advised someone else who was taking their test to have some and they passed too! Relax, be confident, take it very slowly and steadily and you'll be fine. Good luck!

Passed second time, would have passed first but pulled out in front of a 26ton truck when getting impatient at a junction. Personally I thought I had plenty of space but the examiner didn't agree.
Best advice, take your instructor too. A lot of driving examiners come up with rubbish excuses for failing you in order to meet their fail quotas, if you have a witness to say it was not a failable fault, then you have a better chance they will be fair.

In my day back when i took my test in 1989 we only did a practical not theory. I had 7 lessons then 1 lesson on the day of the test and i passed first time round. I think i was lucky because i was convinced i'd failed. Fortunately i then went onto take my class1 licence for HGV with parcelforce and i passed that first time too.
I now work for the NHS again so have no need for HGV, but it was a good experience.

I failed my first time last month, haven't taken another one yet, but hopefully I'll pass the second time!
I had 23 minors and 4 majors so I must of been really bad!! Mainly failed because I stalled on a roundabout, I was in the wrong gear. And didn't check my left mirror at a junction. And also drove in the wrong lane as I approached the dual carriageway. Small stuff really but it all adds up unfortunately

I passed second time round and I found it easier 1st time round I failed on
A- failing to see a one way sign [I did see it but I asked the instructor will I go left or right stupid nerves he said we are now turning right onto a one way street.
B- Turning a sharp corner in 2nd gear when he said it should of been 1st gear
C- Not checking mirrors enough

Passed first time!!!! the secret to passing is to be prepared and listen to your instructor and be relaxed. Most mistakes happen through nerves or not being ready for the test. Have your instructor give you mock tests and see what needs to be improved if anything at all. Good luck

Never took it took the old test passed my test and the theory as well that was 30 years ago

Passed 1st time with only 1 minor.
Have to say though my driving instructor was a chancer, and I had loads of lessons before I sat my test.
Advice - pretend the examiner isn't there, and drive like you do when having lessons, (within reason!).

i passed 1st time , there are some drops for your nerves available at the herbalist .
a tip i was told ,you lose your 1st point if you dont check all your mirrors when you first get in your car , even if youve just got out of it . just talk yourself thru everything , i.e im coming up to traffic lights slow down , good luck
