Paula radcliffe was 3 months preggie when she ran a 10km race (might have even been 20km) So does this mean its ok to do stuff? Say snowboarding at 3 months?

Thanks for the abuse some of you! I was just asking, humans have become a little soft since the "cave pregnancy" days. Was just interested to know. At 3 months you hardly show, so there cant be much to damage??

it depends if it is something that you have been doing already directly before your pregnancy. for instance, it is suggested that you dont horseride during pregnancy, but if you have always ridden horses, and have been doing so up until pregnant frequently then it isnt as much of a issue.
the difference with snowboarding is the risk that is involved, not only from falling, but also from twisting - which in snowboarding is pretty inevitable. skiing would be safer, but still you really have to think about whether you are willing to take the risk.
you also have to factor in that your ligaments are being loosened by pregnancy hormones (even at 3 months, in preparation for labour), so the possibility of injury is much greater, even when you are experienced. think wisely before participating.

Hi TR,
I guess by that question you are pregnant and not wanting to give up the fun life:) Paula Radcliffe had probaly been practising hard for a number of months and you can bet she had the best team around her in case anything looked like going wrong. She would have set out senarios for differnet problems and had probably gotten her doctors approval. Going snowboading is a completely different kettle of fish!! You can not only do yourself much damage, but your child is very vunerable. It would be best to put these things off till the baby is well and truely born. You would hate if you did something silly and miscarried- it is a great pain to bear, wether you have been involved in risky activities or not, to lose a child, and you would berate yourself greatly if you had done something foolish.

DONT DO IT!!!! I lost my first pregnancy that way... I had no idea I was 2 1/2 months pregnant and I went snowboarding and all the falling and slipping caused so much harm I Lost the baby that weekend... It was the most horrible feeling.. I really had no idea but still didnt help heal the fact that I lost my baby... Im sorry.. but you might want to do something else for Valentines Day... your husband will completely understand... He would want the best for your guys' baby anyway..

Commonsense should answer this question for you. Snowboarding & Running are two completely different activities.

Paula Radcliffe was "runnning" whilst 3 months pregnant.

Her coach and mentor Liz McColgan trained for and ran Marathons whilst pregnant. Liz gave birth to two beautiful and healthy girls. Both are now being coached by there mother as future runners.

Walking & Running are natural to the Human physique, snowboarding is "alien".

I am glad that previous "Answerers" have posted positive reponses to your question. Very commonsensable.

NO! Running is a very low impact sport the requires NO blows to the abdomen.
Snowboarding, you could fall into a rock and bash your stomach, and therefore increase your chance of losing baby.
You don't say whether you are pregnant or not, so I'm going to guess that you are just asking out of curiousity rather than wanting to actually do this dangerous thing while pregnant.

Technically its upto the mother. Paula believed that her baby would be fine running therefore she got doctors advice and advice from professionals and took it from there. If you want to Snowboard while pregnant then it is best to ask the doctors and use a lot of padding.
But it is the mothers choice.

I see that a lot of people have answered.
However there is a big difference between running (which would not be advised for a person who is not used to doing it) and doing something as dangerous as snowboarding.
There are too many risks involved with snowboarding and too many chances to harm yourself and the baby.

risky.. what's more important to you the health of your unborn child or thrill seeking.. the question is if you took the risk and you fell could you forgive yourself for putting that babes at risk.. you chose to be the host it didn't choose you.. Do you want to be selfish or selfless? Running is something Paula has done for years and it's a lot less dangerous than snow boarding..Life's all about chances you mess up you pay the price..Do what your heart tells you not other people

You could, but you would be putting yourself and the baby at risk. What if you fell? What if someone fell on you? It's not worth it, go next year! And running and snowboarding are completely different. I have just had a baby and while I was preggers I took gentle walks and went swimming. Keep it gentle!
