If you are looking for the meaning of life, people usually refer to the definition of life and try to explain it further, if the meaning of life was refered to the word "life" then the meaning would be the definition itself, but no-one knows the reason for life even if they know what life is.

When people ask about the meaning of life they are asking about life's purpose. If a person answers with "life", then you have circular reasoning and the question becomes nonsensical. "The purpose of life is life."

So, when we ask, "what is the meaning of life?", we are seeking a response beyond life itself. The question assumes that there is an afterlife.

Another can question if it is possible to have meaning in life if there is no afterlife. If we just die and are gone then why do we live our lives trying to make our world a better place to live? Why not just be selfish, and live life for sex and drugs and rock-n-roll? Who cares who I hurt? Just care about yourself.

Think you need to look more carefully in the dictionary before asking any more questions meaning can have more than one meaning, meaning the meaning you mean is not the meaning others mean when they ask what the meaning of life is if you see what I mean
