In my spare time I test antivirus/spyware programs to see if they perform as claimed. I can tell you that Nortons and McAfee, have been pure junk for years and each an every passing year they continue to get worse.

Nortons never knew a virus when it saw one, an is unable to remove anything. If it does it still in your system. Plus it is a hugh resource hog that only slows down your system.

One thing I can tell you is that I wish I never tested Nortons latest version, because it left me with 350 plus fragments in my system after I removed. The fragments were hidden and some were glued to my files and folders. Not even typing in on "run", c://program files, clicking on browser, opening program files and looking for "symantec". The file was there but it would not delete as it says, "file in use unable to delete".

Being that I consider myself an expert with computers I had to use my Registry First Aid, from http://www.rosecitysoftware.com This is not a free program, but during the evaluation period it will help you to remove all those left behind keys that have "value", in your registry on an automatic basis. (I have used this program for nine years an I never had one wrong key removed. Plus it makes a backup of everything you delete).

If it is possible to shut down Nortons, as you can not run two antivirus systems at the same time. Will cause serious conflict with our pc.

Download the free home personal use of "Avast". It is state of the art technology that is far superior then any antivirus program you can purchase or get for free. They will ask you for your email address as they will send you a free key that is good for one year. After one year you must request another key. The corporate version is the same, they just make corporate. Plus you get daily auto updates sometimes twice per day. Excellent scan of your entire system.

Don't go into the registry on a manual basis and try to remove the Norton keys as it is to dangerous. One mistake an you will have to reformat your entire system.

Download the Registry First Aid to get rid of the fragments while during the evaluation period. As you must purchase this software. If you decide to remove Nortons and download RFA, run, check the registry for errors, then open search the registry, and type in at the top, Nortons an click on add, then type in symantec and click on add. After the scan you will see all the registry keys come up associated with Nortons. Use your mouse to left click on the arrow pointing down. Open and drop down to where it will say, "delete string". This will remove the registry associated key. Do for each one and don't worry because you will have all backed up.

You can find your backup at: start., search for files, and type in "backups", when the scan is completed you will see, "RFA", open and there are your registry keys that you deleted.

Reboot your system always after a virus or performing a removal of registry keys. After the reboot an all works fine you can delete the backups if you want. If not they cause no harm sitting as "backups".

Good luck to you.

Sometimes a antivirus software will refuse to remove a virus if it dosen't know how. So in that case you would have to go and manually remove it. Do a google search with name of the virus and the words Remove virus and you should see alot of sites come up with information on how to remove it.

hi, rory
One thing is sure no one is perfect, in the same one antivirus software's considers a virus as a software where as other as a virus and visversa. so if ur going to use the most stealtiest, costliest and most secure AV software even then ur affected by these kind of problems so plz avoid the thing u do from which ur pc is supose to be infected as much as possible.
u can use AVG AV software all though it is also not perfect in all ways it consumes very less space in ur pc & still effective as much as the most of the AV softwares.

Restore ur computer( if u have dell press ctrl+alt+f8)

or run a cd(if u have) to remove virus from ur computer

a full system rstore will remove virus and clean up ur computer, but the disadvantage is that u will lose every downloaded file or software. or if u have dell, u can restore it a point.( if u think that ur com. is not working well since yesterday, set ur restore point the day before yesterday.)
