Very good question! My son's birthday is the 23rd of November and we have had it on Thanksgiving day and it didn't go very well. So that is when i decided that we would have it that weekend instead of on his Birthday that way he was having his day and his friends there at his party. I hope this helps and Good luck to you and Happy Birthday to your Son!

Having a traditional Thanksgiving is would be good. Thanksgiving is a celebration and that is what you want, right? Your son will not remember his first birthday, but your family will enjoy a nice holiday together with you and your son. Thanksgiving is about getting together with family, so you would probably not get much positive response from friends. Your son has many more birthdays to come and enjoy.

I think that you should have a small get to together on the 22nd, which is actually your son's birthday. Some cake & presents with just your very close family or friends. Then, on the 23rd combine the two special events into one & just enjoy yourselves. Your son's b-day will always end up falling close to the holiday & sometimes even on it so why not make the best of both & still let your son know that he has a speical day all his own.

Your son may feel cheated out of a holiday as he gets older. I would have Thanksgiving on Thursday and then on Sat. or Sun have a small celebration for his birthday. My husband was born on Christmas and always felt cheated out of his birthday because his parents didn't find a way to celebrate his birthday separately. We always had our birthdays celebrated on the weekend so others could attend the festivities. We got told happy birthday on the day but had to wait till the weekend for the presents!!! It worked for our family. Now my husband gets a big bash for his birthday to make up for all those overlooked by Christmas.

well thats up to your family i think if you choose to do that then you should only invite family that you usually spend thanksgiving with and still have the traditional thanksgiving dinner but b-day party style. that should be fun and memoriable...... good luck

Well I think u should do thanksgiving and give it some birthday overtones. and you dont really have to think about this now. i mean it is his first birthday. Im sure it would be more important once he gets older.

Absolutely yes. A birthday is special day unlike a holiday. I wont dilute the spirit of that day with a holiday if i was you.

Of course it would be, everyone does their own thing for the holiday anyway no one tradition is alike so change it up this year.

If he is a young child then yes. If your son is like 15 then i don't really think so, its a little late.

If you plan on having family and friends over anyway why not celebrate both of them. After all they are both very special days.
