Both countries have excellent universities and great opportunities for learning and growing. One of the best things about studying abroad is that it allows you to get to know yourself better and develop your character. You will see the world from a different perspective and you will learn a lot about yourself, your goals, your strengths and your connection with a new society. Change can be a scary thing, but going to college in a different country is the experience of a lifetime. You cannot let fear hold you back and prevent you from one of the best things in life: learning to live in a new culture. As far as where to go - You should not base this decision on how dangerous a country can be, but what you are trying to get out of this experience: What types of research are you interested in? What are the professors known for? What type of job or internship opportunities exist? Do you want a small or a big school? Do you want to live in a city or a country place? These are the real questions you should be asking. I wish you the best with this endeavor.

I would think it would be London, 'cause they have a camera for every twenty people, or so... and while in London you will be under constant surveillance,...I understand that when entering the downtown ares you will be on no less than 60 cameras. You could check the township crime statistics... maybe at Scotland Yard's website. and even the universities & colleges may have crime statistics for their township or region (county). INTERPOL would have some information available... even some better known travel agencies may have info. Spent a few weeks in London, York, Manchester, Blackpool, Oxford, The lake District, Glouchester, Nottingham, Perth, Edinborough, and the worst thing I saw was a few drunks (and sometimes it was me), But I witnessed NO Violence, No Guns, No Bombs, not even a car wreck! Did see a police car going thru Kings Cross at a rather high speed, but you heard him coming and there he went, and he was gone... Do'nt know where he was going but he was in a real big hurry! (approximately 80 mph thru downtown, twisty, curvy roads) >Just do'nt get arrested giving your opinion in public..... if your not standing on the (soap) box at Kensington Park!

Most US institutions of higher learning are safe places to live and learn. What makes these schools, as well as ones in every country in the world unsafe is, frequently, the risky or risque behavior of some students. Figure out where the better schools are for the area of study that you are interested in and then make your choice.

hi ankita

you'll be fine in both places as long as you're sensible... both are equal. however i would recommend UK definitely because at least it's safe enough to use public transport. the US transport system is non-existent and u'll literally be stranded unless you have a car or friends who have cars..

so yes, in that way UK is a slight bit safer as well as better!! Also, technical education is very highly regarded from the UK!!

"We" have had a few high profile cases of late, but safety for the most part, is not an issue here. It is a personal issue/commitment.
It doesn't mattter where you attend, don't party with people you don't know, don't walk home alone after dark, don't get in to cars with strangers....
All the things that we teach our children STILL apply when they go off to college.
Good luck with either of your choices.

Oh god! you sound so young and inexperienced if you're wondering about how safe it is for a girl!
I'm an international student at a US university. I'm also a "girl" and I've had a wonderful experience.

I believe most of our universities are quite safe. However, as with life in general, just be aware of your surroundings. Unfortunately, the world is just not as safe as it used to be....
