It is called a sound hole. I've been a guitarist for 26 years, trust me on this one!

It is a sound hole, because the guitar would not resonate the sound and you would not be able to hear it if the hole was not there.

If you are thinking about the DECORATION around the soundhole, it is called a rosette. The hole itself is a soundhole. If your guitar has "f" shaprd holes they are called "f" holes, and if they have strange shapes or there are more than one, the name is still "soundhole"

The inlays. These can be made out of several materials as well. They are used as a visual guidance while playing to help you figure out where you are playing on the guitars neck. Usually, but not always, the inlays are on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 12th, 15th, and 17th fret(s) of the guitar and depending on how many frets you have on your neck may even continue farther. These come in a variety of shapes and colors.
