By answering I'd have to admit to myself that I'm an "old timer."
I can't bring myself to do it....
But it's Jack Paar, by the way--two a's, one r. And Gene Chandler, never changed his name to Duke of Earl; he changed his name from Eugene Dixon to Gene Chandler.
And now I'm listening to the rhythm of the falling rain telling me just what a fool I've been...

All right, since you've got me now...Steve Allen was the first host of the Tonight Show, then Paar, then Johnny Carson.
I assume you're asking about Brylcreem, but I remember a lot of the men I knew used Vitalis or Murray's Pomade. I remember carhops used to skate your food to your car door at drive-in diners. (The tight pants were very flattering to girl with nice bottoms.)
Annette Funicello was even hotter when she grew up and did all those "Beach Blanket" movies with Frankie Avalon--(all hail Erich von Zipper)--she was much hotter than Sandra Dee as Gidget. Didn't watch "77 Sunset Strip" much but I remember Efrem Zimbalist Jr., later of "The FBI."
Oh, and Little Richard sang "Keep-a-knockin'"
