Wash separately with cold water and add 1 cup vinegar. The vinegar will set the dye. Then wash again with soap.Read this in a helpful hints book and just tried it on 2 new red shirts I bought and it worked.

Wash like colors together. In cold water with laundry soap and white vinegar. Depending on size of load add a cup to each full load.

Wash those items separately from all other clothes or with clothes that are the same color. And wash in cold water.
Sometimes you can soak that particular item in cold water for awhile before washing. It helps to set the dyes.

Wash these items separately from your other laundry the first few times and wash in cold water only. This will set the color and prvent it from bleeding thereafter.

Wash them separate from your other clothes. You may need to do this a few times before they stop bleeding. I know this takes time and extra money but you could always do it in small wash loads and less soap. LOL

when you buy new articles of clothing that are dark wash them the first time with salt. It sets the dye so it doesn't bleed anymore.
Always separate lights from darks.
