My 'Service Engine Soon' light would be on? I drive a 2001 Nissan Altima which I took for an oil change yesterday. After he was done, the mechanice said the car is in good condition with no work needed. Last night whilst parked in my friend's driveway talking, (It was really cold, so we kept the car running while we talked... for about 45 mins) the 'Service Engine Soon' light came on, and has stayed on since. Any ideas why? I'm terrified the car's going to die on the highway or something.

Go down to Autozone and they will hook up a code reader to your car and tell you what the problem is. It might be something as simple as your O2 sensor fouled out from letting it idle so long. If that is confirmed I would drive it down the hiway for 20 miles or so and see if it clears up.

Most likely by leaving it idling that long, you fouled out the oxygen sensor.
Usually, the check engine light is smog equipment related.

i would take it back to where you got your oil changed...they might of forgot to fill something after they drained it.....explain to them exactly as you did us and they should be able to figure something out for you.

Or you can take it to a different garage and tell them what happened and see if they can help
