It already is.
Al-Qaida's stated aim is the re-establishment of the Caliphate and a Caliph to rule an Islamic global empire, where all are under the leadership of the Caliph - whether they chose to be or not. Not just the way of life in the west is threatened, but all the places who do not adhere to hardcore fanatical Islam, even peace loving Muslims will be forced to adhere to more hardline doctrines.
They are diametrically opposed to everything we do, all the freedoms we enjoy. Democracy, equality for women, adhering to fashion trends, listening to music, drinking alcohol, eating non-halal food, sexual liberation and freedom, education for all including women, women having positions of authority. The list goes on. Just the other day I watched a documentary about how Muslim women were being banned from worshipping at the mosque. Why? Just because they were women, even though the Qu'ran forbids muslims from controlling women in this way. The Qu'ran also state ALL people should behave modestly, not singling women out. It doesn't say women should cover themselves from head to foot in Burka's. The headscarf is modesty, the Burka is OPPRESSION.
The Muslims were the most advanced and scientifcly minded people before the time of the crusades, when it was taken from them, by the success of Christian knights, and they are now jealous of the west's power and influence. They have every intention of taking the predominate position back, even if it is a crusade or more appropriately a "Jihad" of hundreds of years to do so.
The west must align themselves with, and better understand the moderate Muslims who do want to live in peace and harmony with the west if we are to successfully crush these militant elements who would have our entire way of life destroyed.

The threat is here now, Just have to look at the Sudan, Ethiopia, Darfur etc.where they are killing the christians and forcing them to live under sharia law. They have openly admitted that they want sharia law here in Britain. The west and the east will never see eye to eye and as history shows there will always be wars between them as the cultures and beliefs are too wide a gap to bridge. The islam fundamentalists are a dangerous lot that spread the hatred of anything western amongst the muslim communities, especially to the younger ones who are easily swayed, believing that they will be rewarded in heaven with virgins and that dying for the cause is an honour. They even fight amongst themselves, the shia against the suni religions, but they join together against the west. We in the west certainly have cause to be concerned.

Islam has been spread by force since it's inception about 1500 years ago. Even though the west hasn't been paying attention, Islam has been forcing itself, intensely, on countries around the world for the past couple hundred years. Most history books talk about the size of the Roman Empire, 2000 years ago, or the British Empire, 250 years ago, but the largest empire of them all was the Ottoman Empire, which lasted into the early 1900's and played a significant role in the first World War. I think history tells us that the aggressive side of Islam has been here for a long time and will continue for a long time to come.

Islam is a threat right now. It has been a threat for many hundreds of years. We must stop the spread of this vile religon. Stand up and be counted, and do not let the PC crowd put you down for saying what is on your mind. The left wing commie scumbags want Islam to be rife throughout the world, so they can push their stupid ideals onto people. Islamic, men love raping women, they love sleeping with young boys and girls. How can people like be allowed in the west. Contact your local MP and fight for the expulsion of all Islamics.

I firmly believe it is a threat already. The insurgents in Iraq have mostly been sent from our old friends the Iranians. They have managed to keep Iraq destabilized long enough for unrest to root itself amongst the Sunni and Shiite factions. The Iranian insurgents have prolonged instability long enough to demoralize the American resolve. If we don't finish what we started we are only prolonging an inevitable fight against a nuclear armed fascist state controlled by Iran. Let's face it , reality is we are at war with Iran. The battleground just happens to be in Iraq.Iran has more than just fanned the fire of the fierce in fighting of the different factions of Muslims in Iraq.

for a start i dislike the term islamic fascism as allthough it has a great ring to it, it is allso an insult to Musolini, a more apt title would islamic naziism. as for your question, islamic fundametalism is a threat, but it is not a major one nor will it ever become one as this sort of extremism is by its very nature only ever a very very minority interest, allthough a greater number of people are giving it some level of support it is for the most part non physical support, whats more the major weapon of this sort of extremism is the suicide bomber and at the end of the day no one that is stupid enough to use that as its main weapon could ever be a major threat.

For years America was isolationist it had all the energy it needed straight from its own soil, however as the past few years have shown it has turned its eyes greedily on what others have and wants it for itself, at the same time it would attempt to stop anyone else having a share, if all the worlds resources especially oil were in Australia it is hardly likely that there would be trouble in the middle east. Radical Islam, is that the same as Radical Roman Catholicism if it is then we should be afraid of fascists from whatever quarter

They are operating on a 20 year plan and we are just five years into it. And sadly they are winning where they wanted to be winning. They have sparked a global war, they have dragged us into bloody war in two countries which we are losing, they have planted cashes of weapons and terrorists amongst muslims in the west and already have killed loads, they have started an intifada in France and want the same in Britain, it goes on. They are a problem now.

the west itself is the only real threat to the west if you put it in those words. The US fostered most of these so called Muslim dictators in the 80s and 90s and now complains that they turned their backs on them, BUT THEY MADE THEM AND TAUGHT THEM EVERYTHING THEY KNOW 4 g,d sake, and anyway problems in the middle east have always brought benefits to western economies, and Israel, producing and selling more weapons and making international oil and gas prices fluctuate.
I guess u never saw that interview on BBC 1, this Muslim female politician and writer was telling the interviewer that US planes often fly around distributing radical pamphlets in Arab supporting fundamentalism.
The west needs chaos and disorder in the east and south to support their economy

Pressurizing and forcing islamic countries to embrace democracy is like asking them to have hamburgers in MacDonald. It might look good and fun in the beginning but there is a lot of problems later on. ( did you watch supersize me )
Democracy is not a perfect concept or system , if it is not a perfect product , you should not export it. Ask yourself do you want to buy a imperfect product or how do you feel someone forced you to buy a imperfect product.
