Why people accept Greenwich for the 0. longitude?Why isn't it a somewhere different?

Because when latitude and logitude were invented the Brits were at the centre of world power and influence.

The line is actually painted on the ground at the Royal Naval College in Greenwich (South East London)

Greenwich was the site of the Royal Observatory built by Charles II in 1675. It was where the idea of longitude was first mooted and standardised. It is also the base line for all the earth's time zones.

There were a couple of choices as I seem to remember reading. Greenwich won the vote.

I'm guessing there isn't any specific reason...it just happened that they chose some place and it happened to be Greenwich
