I can really relate to this question! I know exactly how you feel!

When there's something going on in my personal life, I'm someone who worries a lot. I stress myself out over it and can't get it out of my mind. Honestly, the best thing to do is to TRY to work. After an hour or two or working with whatever it is on your mind, it becomes second nature- working with the stress of a problem, even if it's just for a day.

Good luck! It happens to everyone, and feel better!

I can relate. I was thinking the same thing recently, when I sort of got this crush on someone famous, who I just saw a few days ago when I was out somewhere. So this is my newest shock- that I can't stop focusing on this subject while at work; so it seems as if I'm just goofing off at work the past couple days, because it just seems so difficult to pay attention when your personal life seems unstable. But my advice is this: Force yourself to do your work (you don't want to risk losing your job for lack of work, or else you'll have another problem to worry about). Try to realize that if it's a small arguement with the other person that you're upset over- maybe it'll pass & you'll get back together. But if it's something major, then stay positive and be open to meeting new people and go out and have fun with your friends!- You just might find someone better who'll take away the heartache!

It's unavoidable to have your concentration interrupted by personal reasons. What I do, I take a short break -- completely stop the work or go down the storage room and light a cig, think about what's interfering with my concentration, I write it down then decide to put it aside and get my focus back to work. Everything has its own turn and when its turn comes, it will be dealt with accordingly.

You are PAID! to work during that official hour. So snap out of personal reasons and work, this is to be fair to your fellow colleagues. Imagine now, somebody else is having that problem, how do you feel ?? By the way from experience, NOBODY will take pity on you whatever your problem is, so don't bother to share, cos for all you know they are waiting for you to tender that notice. Do you have annual leave?? Take it and solve your problem soon / see a doctor or seek some form of help before colleagues around you notice. Or else it is a matter of time you will have to quit either from YOUR personal reasons or Your boss will make you !! Good Luck!!!

I try hard to find the reason for the worry and if I could do anything by worrying alone or if there is a alternate like talking to someone or taking sometime off work. talking to your manager will help too because he/she is the person who is directly responsible for you, so keeping them in the loop is always a good practice as well as you have another view point to look from.

If this situation happens to me, I take a minute for myself. Normally I'll write down what I'm feeling, or what's going through my head in a notebook (that I keep at my desk for that reason). After I write down everything that's bothering me, I feel much better, and am able to concentrate again on my task at hand. Good luck!

I am lucky that I work often out of my house and when I have trouble concentrating I jump on Yahoo or do some email or wash the dishes

Try to never bring personal problems to work. It's like the reason for the separation of church and state... the two don't mix.

Been going through the same exact thing lately. You just try and focus on the job. It's not an easy thing.
