I personally think that the fourth dimension is time. But I guess people don't think about that too often...
Look at it this way: Imagine you were a 2D person. In such case, you have no idea of what the third dimension is. No matter how hard you try, you cant seem to imagine it. That's pretty much how we are in the relation to the fourth dimension. We can't REALLY comprehend it.
But: In 3D, atoms have three vectors which define their position. X, Y and Z. Two particles that have the same x and y, but a different z, will not collide with each other. Simularly, in 4D even if two particles have the same x, y and z, they will not collide if they each have a seperate Q position. Q being the fourth dimension.

Time travel...scienctist and mathematicans have been crazy over time travel for thousands of years and since the therory of the fourth dimension they think it will help them achieve their goal of going back in time.
