If you seriously want to pursue PAID publication-- and see your book on store shelves everywhere-- its a long journey. You'll need to research how to do a NF proposal. Its a very formal thing that outlines your book in terms of chapters, content, etc. It has sample chapters, market information, platform, etc.

Then you'll want to find youself an agent who represents non-fiction who can help perfect the propsoal and send it to editors.

I write fiction and have an agent who just submitted my book to 6 publishers starting 2 weeks ago...its exciting for sure!

all you can do is send copies of your manuscript to publishers in the hope they will accept it, no doubt if it's yoru first work you will get a lot of rejection slips, dont worry keep on trying, whatever you do, don't answer the advertisements in papers saying they are looking for unpublished authors to publish their works, these are what is known in the trade as vanity publishers, and they charge you to publish and print so many copies of the book, all you can do then is say "well at least i had a book published" sadly very few people will get to read it, and you would end up giving them away to friends. To sum up then, all you can do is work hard, and tread the mill seeking out reputable publishers. you'll be able to get their addresses easily enough, simply look in books of the same genre as yours and the publishers name and address will be on one of the flyleafs.

I would recommend that you self-publishing it. I self-published a book of poetry through http://www.lulu.com/
Lulu are completely free and very easy to use. You can then buy a global distribution, or ISBN, which will put your book on Barnes and noble, borders, amazon.... i really like lulu, i think they are great. They also offer a great customer service if you get stuck.
If you think they are too good to be true (which was my original opinion) you can view my book at http://www.lulu.com/dchooper
Hope this helps. Good luck with your writing.
For any more information about Lulu you can contact me at forensic_dreamer@hotmail.com (if you do contact me, put Lulu in the subject line, or i might report as spam)
Cheers, Deanna.

Become a celebrity first - then publishers will be falling over themselves to pay you vast amounts of money for any shite that you write.

You've probably already done this, but if not then approach anyone and everyone who might have an association with your subject matter (e.g. if it's about a particular area, person etc) and beg some funding off them! Good luck
