It's interesting, is it not? Most non hippies will try to get away from the smell. Is it pavlovian or survival instinct?

You have to be stoned to fully appreciate the heady aroma, I guess.

a girl i knew in the late 70's used it as some kind of conditioner for her dreads. it could be a calling card, or an identifying marker. i don't think it's pavlovian or a survival instinct, patchouli can be very overwhelming and stink a place up. of course, if one is the stereotypical hippie, they're probably too stoned and have "one toke over the line" playing too loud to notice the aroma.

Patchouli is an aquired smell,for me it brings back the good memories of the 60's-70's...it keeps some people at bay,but then again most don't even know what that smell is so its kinda funny to get those type of reactions..Funniest reaction I got once was "oh you smell like drugs!"..lol..wtf

I dont know.My neighbor was a semi hippie back in the day,sometimes she would wear that ,I couldnt stand the smell!!!Sort of bug sprayish aroma.

Pachouli is awsome! It's not just hippies man. It's the mosty unique scent there is. (and it covers up other smells, like reefer)

That's my perfume! It's also in a lot of mens' colognes. I like it, and I'm not a hippy, that was slightly before my time.

so what could it mean if one mixes it with ylang ylang? ..and it is nice on the dreads, to bad febreeze still doesnt come patchouli scented.

it was before my time, but i still love the scent. i should have been a hippie. sure would explain my drug use.
