I have been dating this for 2 1/2 yrs and I bought us a dog about a month ago. Now we are breaking up and he wants the dog but so do I. Plus he's never home to take care of him and I am. So what do I do? Share him?

YOU bought the dog, right? Therefore that makes YOU his owner. I hope you kept the receipt or a cancelled check or something - you can actually prove that you own the dog. You didn't buy it as a gift specifically for him, in which case, the dog would belong to HIM. Call your local legal aid or find an atty who does free phone consults & ask them what your legal standpoint is here. But since you made the purchase, the dog is yours.

Breaking up is hard to do. Nicely point out the fact he isn't home a lot and you would like to take care of him. Let him know he can come visit the dog or take him out if he wants to. You might have to share him for a while until the guy finds something better to do in his life. He might not even want the dog, perhaps he just wants to win the fight. Either way try to discuss in a frank matter what is the best for the dog and good luck!!!

You said you bought the dog...if you gave it to him as a gift then he should take him but if you bought him for the 2 of you it's only fair that you keep it since you are home to take care of it.Remind him that a dog needs attention.

If you are the one who takes care of the dog, you should take it. It will only be neglected.
