In already have one and I'd appreciate it if you people and your robots would stop trespassing. The neighbors blame me for all your litter.

Look for the website of the Mars Society. What they say is fundamentally this - we already have the technology. So it's not a matter of technique, it's a matter of money and political will.
Another point they make is that moon bases and space stations are not needed for a Mars mission.
Mars is safer than the moon because it's slight atmosphere blocks or reduces some cosmic and solar radiation. The CO2 in the Mars atmosphere can be turned into oxygen using reliable chemistry that has been understood for over 100 years. There is obviously water or ice on Mars which can be used. Sunlight is weaker on Mars but there is obviously enough to operate solar panels. The Martian day is about 40 minutes longer than that of Earth and that should not worry people too much. The gravity is stronger than on the moon which is probably healthier. There are a lot of advantages to Mars not available on the moon.
The moon would be a fantastic place for astronomic telescopes bigger and better than Hubble. A lot of other scientific work could be done there, but it is no place for a colony. Mars is lush by comparison.

200 years. The moon will happen first because it IS easier...and much closer. Trip to the moon: 3 days. Trip to mars: 3 months.
There are definatly NOT any other planets more suitable....Mercury and venus are too hot...and the giant gas planets don't have a solid surface to land on...you'd be crushed by their gravity anyway. A moon of Jupiter or Saturn might be possible, but a trip to either of those would take years.

Unfortunately, it looks like Humans will never be able to colonize space. You are losing the race against an exploding world population that will drain the available resources necessary to mount such an effort. The net effect will be that humanity will be constrained to keep all their eggs in one basket until such time as a disease, asteroid, or some religion's self-fulfilling prophesy to end the world does exactly that. Over the centuries, your planet was a curious place to visit once or twice and was not considered very interesting . Sure, your wars showed us how undeveloped you are as a species. Your infantile,(in cosmic terms) dependence on god concepts does not bode well for you and neither does your penchant to breed beyond your planet's ability to sustain you. We are now showing an interest in you because it is not often that we get to observe a species commit suicide. You are so close to maturing as a sentient species and it will be a shame to see you kill yourselves. There are just not enough of you becoming rational enough to force the issue. You let the least among you determine your fate, so be it.

I extrapolate 2070-3000a.d. we will dig under ground or put bubbles or grow houses above and sustain homeostasis in them and the world Republican president Of the soveign planet earth will make slacker think they are going somewhere but in actuality million people could go harvest on mars or Venus. Why not the moon. All we need there are suits I don't even know if you can breathe on the moon . We haven't put a rat on it. I heard when we went to the moon we brought back a fly. I DONT KNOW IT'S HEARSAY IT WASN'T THE ENQUIRER BUT IT WASN'T OMNI. i DON'T REMEMBER.LOL-AUDI5

I think it will be 80 plus years before the technology has been enhanced enough to do it. I would say the moon would be the fist step in that. It would be easier and closer to work out the logistics and problems that will accrue. Then we can move outward.

NEVER darling NEVER.
You see, it is all politicians games.
Ask yourself this. What is out there for us to lure us to take that kind of risk? Let alone the expense.
The reason America was explored and colonized was because of the economic incentive of it.
Now, if Mars or Venus were habitable worlds, I guarantee you we would be there already!
