Death Metal is just as violent, if not more violent, than rap music. Any genre will have more than one sub-genre. I suppose that the only rap that acquires publicity is crude and disrespectful. Rap was not always like this, and there are several rappers to this day who have positive influences embedded in their music. The rap music that is constantly in the spotlight is the kind that cause people to discribe it as "a relentless beat of thuggery and violence". I don't believe any form of expression should be banned. Besides, I haven't heard anything in rap music as violent as horror movies like "Saw" or "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre". Should those movies be banned too?

Then they should ban Indian music ...how on Earth do you think that Rap music is to blame for this debauchery. Rap is an expression of Poetry that magnifies on the constant struggles of life. I love and listen to Rap ...Rap has been around since the 50's ...if you might remember that song by OutKast 'Hey Ya' ....that sample came from an artiste back in the 50s ...This is a sociological matter ...if children are deprived of certain community activities ...they feel they have to do the instinct of every human ...survival. They lack social skills and feel pressurised into doing something. Which as they get older, they realised their mistakes for their actions.

That statement is a little too broad.

There are rap artists who don't always promote 'thuggery & violence'...

Ones from back in the day I think were less violent and more about promoting positivity.

In other words, it would depend on the artist. Not all rap artists speak about the same thing.

And for the ones who do have violent content in their lyrics, it could be a reflection on what they saw around them.

No life would not be better if rap music wasn't around. The reason is that Violence and Thuggery have always been a part of society...througout history...Rappers sing about the violence they have went through...they don't become rappers to become violent...do you see what im saying? Granted some people will always take anything they hear literally and they will think its cool to go Bust a cap..or smack a ho....but I think that if anything Stupid parents who don't raise thier children to be smart enough to not take rap literally or any music for that matter shouldn't be allowed to have kids.

Rap isnt necessarily bad. It's the choices that these kids make that make rap seem bad. The music and videos arent making these people dress or act differently. It's entirely up to them. Parents can only teach kids to make the right decisions. After that, it's completely out of their hands. The same goes for the teenie bopper pop songs. Most girls, these days, dress slutty after the new artists' wardrobe. So, no. I don't agree that banning rap would help out.

Teens were becoming more agressive and adventurous long before rap ever hit the scene. Remember when they wanted to blame heavy metal? Before that the call went out to ban rock-and-roll.... they called it the devil's music.
When you are looking so hard for things to blame societies problems on that you attack the music of the popular culture, You are so far detached from the real roots of the problem, That you might should step back and re-evaluate the entire situation.

I you ban one you have to ban them all..
Some people do not like Opera..others find Musicals to be torture.

Parents should share in the enjoyment of music their child likes..
Discuss lyrics and tell why you don't approve of them..instead of just telling a kid NO..Show them the harm that may of happened due to the words being out there..show them other forms and types of music..Not all Rap is wrong and even the bad stuff has its lessons if applied right.

No, we shouldn't ban it. We do have freedom of speech and people will still be bad and act immature and have a violent nature even if rap music didn't exisit. There are other influences out there. If rap music was banned, you would have a lot of angry rap consumers out there.

I don't agree with your reasoning behind wanting to ban rap music. However, I do think it's a bunch of talentless garbage. They haven't came up with anything remotely original since the 80s.
