I'm know as being the person that always turns up to my friends halloween partys in the best costume.

In the invites this year he has stated there is a prize for anyone who can beat my costume as I always excel myself.

I'm really stuck this year for a good costume. Last year I went as "Papa Lazerou" from the League of Gentlemen (UK BBC TV show) complete with Minstral style face paints - top hat, wig, walking cain and knee length jacket with pegs inside - it went down really well and everyone said I had by far the best costume.

I don't want to go as a ghost or a vampire or a mummy or zombie - I want a costume that won't cost too much that people will say "wow thats a top costume"

I'm a bit strapped for cash this year - I have the black and white face paints from last year and still have the wig and top hat.

Any ideas peeps? - sensible answers only pweese...

this can be modified any way you want and could be your starting point. very inexpensive too...and waterproof.
Last year I saw on the Martha Stewart show how they made a witches costume from black garbage bags and duct tape.
you need the drawstring bags. one they cut a slit in the area under the drawstrings so it was a bit longer and they cut ,in a zig zag, the bottom part of the bag off, that part is used for another part of the costume.
this one is for the top half of the costume. It is put on like a tube top with the drawstrings as the shoulder straps. pull and tie to fit.
don't worry about the strings coz they get covered later.
then another bag is cut to be the skirt, zig zag like the first and that is tied around the waist. Duct tape as much as needed to keep the top and bottom together.

they also cut a third bag in half to be the sleeves...they used duct tape to hold things in place. Just tape the sleves to the top.
the cut off parts are used to make the cape and they pulled on the zig zag points to stretch them.(also did on skirt)
It was pretty cool and waterproof but you may need scissors to cut the costume off when done.
I hope I explained enough for you to figure out how to do it.
a half dozen bags and tape are cheap especially if you already have them around

where you cut the zig zag depends on your size.
the sleeves bag is cut down the sides so one half the drawstring can be each sleve gather at the neck...
cut and fit the dress to size.
just add a hat and your good to go.

You could go as The Crow, just get a long black wig and wear all black clothes and you're sorted!
There are some really unusual and funny costumes on http://www.chickenshop.co.uk in the novelty section that won't break the bank.
Good luck!

One year I dressed completely in black - tight turtleneck, black jeans, black boots, black gloves. I bought cheap cat ears and a cat tail that tucked into my pants. I drew cat's wiskers on my face and bright red lips. I then bought yellow feathers and used artist's glue to attach below my mouth.

No one could figure out my costume and I won the $100 prize. What was I? The cat who swallowed the canary!!!

Be a scary mine with a creepy face, like Munch's 'The Scream' instead of the sad look.
