Yes they do. However it doesn't mean that they are playing great either. Sure they have the best offence, but its a good thing they do as they also have one of the weakest defence as well.

They beat Milan in Milano which is fantastic, and they deserved it as they played great. However they have been inconsistent too (loss at home against Atalanta, and poor game against Empoli too).

Its too early to say if they'll still be fighting for first throughout the season, but so far so good. Infact, the team is hoping for a top 4 finish. I just hope they finish ahead of Inter.

Yes, they fully deserve.
Palermo and Fiorentina are so far the better playing Clubs in this early season. Palermo has an experienced line-up, a great coach, a bright playing style.
But I'm not sure this a long lasting leadership.
Please remember Italian ship is highly tactical, usually the more impressive team doens't win. The winner is the team who did less mistakes.
By now, no1 team has avoided mistakes. Pal. and Inter gained 18 points, Milan and Fiorentina (both penalized, their score is 7 and 4- respectively)15, Roma 14.
Last season, out of 8 match, Juventus had 24 points, Milan 19.
There aren't sure leaders, there aren't reliable teams - by now.
Palermo is weak when defending, and the owner and President, Zamparini, often lose his temper.
Inter - as always - has troubles in players management. Take a look at Adriano. He's in Brazil now, and no1 knows when he would return in Italy.
Milan, Roma, Fiorentina seems more reliable. Milan and Fiorentina (as well as Lazio and Juventus) should have a decreased penalization after the final judgment who will happen in the next days. The judgment is scheduled today, last prediction says Juventus and Lazio 7+, Milan few points, Fiorentina not sure: the are asking for their innocence, if judges will allow this the penalization should be canceled, but if they negate it, the penalization would be the same. Judges said 'every Club will be judged by his own responsabilities', but I guess they will try a balanced judgment, having Juventus 8+, Lazio 6+, Milan 3/4+, Fiorentina 10+...
Not enough to have Fiorentina fighting for the Scudetto, enough to have a revenging Milan ready to crush Inter in the next match, getting close in ship ranking.
Roma, they had a below average starting, but last season they had 9 points out of 8 match. Del Neri was sacked, and Spalletti had an average start, finally ending with an impressive 69 points out of 38 match...
Euro Cups - Inter has great troubles in their Champions League group. They're third only with 3 points, when Bayern has 9 and Sporting 4. Milan and Roma are doing well instead. Palermo has their forst real test match against Newcastle. If they should won, as I guess, their season could be struggling, because they haven't good replacements. If Inter should lose their next match (they're unpredictable!), they could lose CL and focus on Scudetto only...
So, I'm impressed so much from Palermo - btw I'm a Juventus fan and I'm supporting Palermo and Atalanta as underdogs in 'serie A' - but can't think they will fight for leadership since the last season match...

I don't think they will be for long, two years ago Udinese were on top at the beginning of the season too, but the couldn't stay there in the second half of the season!!!

Very good team. They have my respect. They deserve to be up there with their performances lately. They've been playing great offensive football.

If they have played well, any team deserves to the top.
