The reason the mice have come inside is the change in weather, and they're looking for a warm place to spend the winter. Food will keep them there.
If sealing off their entry points is not an option (and they will climb up foundations to find holes under the siding. I've seen them do it,) poison (and I recommend DeCon) or a cat are really your best options. If you decide for poison and the cat, make sure the cat can't get into the poison. You need to move quickly, as they can multiply amazingly fast. I would advise sealing as many entry points as you can find anyway, whatever you decide. Why keep it easy for the mice to get in?
A terrier might be an option, as some of them were bred to hunt rats, but in my experience cats are better mousers.

It is possible the cat may have actually brought the big mousie in through the cat flap to play with. There are several types of traps that can be used that do not involve poison. Glue traps are fairly effective for this purpose. My family successfully caught a mouse using a glue trap, and they are safe for use around young children - though messy if the child gets his hands on it, but nothing some soap and water won't take care of. If kitty gets a paw in the glue trap (generally will end up dragging the trap around) you can carefully pull it out and no harm done. You can also try one of those ultrasonic noise pest repellent electronic devices or else a type of trap that closes the rat into a box when it enters. Some of these box type traps are also known as humane no kill traps since they will actually trap the mouse inside an enclosure without killing it. Others are electric mouse traps that zap the mouse once it is inside. If you use an electric mouse trap, take similar precautions that you would with a manual mouse trap: keep it out of childrens reach, and use it only where the kid would not get into it (like a locked area).

There is something called a cat! This is the best way to rid your home of all rodents. They eat very little and bathe themselves and they buiry their mess.
You could also try the plug in's it is a high frequency pitch that is supposed to keep mice away but my boss doesn't have much luck with them...
You can also get the sray form insulation it comes in a can and seal the place that they are getting into. this means if you have any inside your home they'll stay there till' you get a cat or set mice traps.

Raid makes a gel that is no poisonous. It comes in a long brown tube you can find at local hardware store or at local WalMart. This is not harmful to children or other pets. Run a line along the opening where they are coming in. This will keep them from entering into your home. It is also great for snakes and bugs too. Hope this helps

Getting rid of mice is SO difficult, sometimes impossible. One way is to make sure there is no easily obtainable food for them. You may have to trap them. Its disgusting and unpleasant doing it but so are mice disgusting cos they urinate constantly, so everywhere you see droppings they have urinated over everything too!
Get traps etc from garden centres and hardware stores. Bait traps with chocolate, peanut butter or avocado. Not so much that they can eat the treat without getting caught in the trap!
You may need to get the pest control people in.

Forget the cat, as long as their are ways to get in they will keep coming back. Do not use poison they can die in the walls and stink for weeks. The best is to set traps, bait with peanut butter, they love it.

Besides the cat, traps seem to be the best way. I have heard they don't like peppermint oil(health food store) and I am currently trying another cheap remedy in my sheds. Mix half Borax(supermarket washing powder) and ground black pepper sprinkled in corners. Messy, but it's supposed to really discourage rodents and kills bugs.
