Donkeys can be sweet, and as a previous poster mentioned, can be highly agressive. Where horses have a more ingrained flight mentality when faced with danger, donkeys are more prone to fight. If handled fairly, and trained properly, they make wonderful pets, and they have a very long life span (longer than a horse).
To the above poster - that 'mule killing cougar' is an urban myth. The photos were taken after the cat was shot, and the mule was playing with the carcass. I read an interview with the hunter in a mule magazine.

While donkeys can be nice, they can also be mean just like any other living ccreature. I would say for the most part, they are quiet docile creatures... when talking about jennys (females) or johns (neutered/gelded jacks) that is... statistically speaking though... donkeys kill more people every year than all yearly combined plane crashes... so, unless you know the donkey... I wouldnt get too close. We have 4 right now plus a mini donkey and the 2 gelded ones are shy, but curious and very gentle. The two jacks we have are kind of stand off-ish and the mini donkey almost killed our rottweiler.... the rott is bigger than him.... they are tough animals built to survive and defend themselves... so they are or at least can be somewhat dangerous. But they sure are cute!!

Some are, some aren't. My neighbor has about 20 and most of them are really nice. A couple of them are really good about goosing you if you are not paying attention to them and a couple others will about knock you over leaning on you when you pet them. The worst thing in my opinion is sometimes the smell and the occasional loud braying.

yes... and no....
more people are killed by donkeys than die in airplane crashes....
donkeys can be VERY agressive.. they are often attained as guard animals becuase they will KILL coyotees.. there was a mule who killed a cougar too.. they will even kill dogs they dont know...
they are cute.. but man on man you dont want to piss one off
* I own 1 donkey now.. and have had others including one we got rid of after it nearly killed a sheep and agressively when after one of our llamas

Yes they are very infact. You can do just about anything to them and they won't get mad.
