If you know for sure that the IPOD was stolen and not 'misplaced' AND you are comfortable with the fact that your friend could be subjected to criminal charges, then yes... call the police. They will have you fill our a report and ask for possible suspects. They will eventually make contacts with your friends and if they determine that one of them has it.. then they will pursue them with criminal charges. Once this process is started, you really can't stop it so you need to be absolutely sure you are ready to face this consequences.
Here's what I suggest, go get the police report, fill it out at your home. Then invite each of your friends over (individually) and explain that if you do not have your IPOD back with in a set period (3 days) that you will file the papers. Tell them it could be returned annomonously by having it placed in your mail box and all will be forgiven and forgotten.
If this fails to produce it... and your comfortable with the possible consequences.... file the police report.

if he was a real friend to you he would never stole it off you in the first place how about you have a talk to his perents or perent about it and see if it will get it returned if this dont work have him charged because l believe if you dont he will do it again to you or somone else and he will never learn his lesson if you dont if you have him charged you will just might get it back
