No, I have never had that happen. My heart goes out to you. I can only imagine how hard that must be. Anything is possible, maybe they did miss the heartbeat. Human error happens all the time in the medical field. But honestly the occurance is very, very rare for that sort of thing. The heartbeat being the first thing they look for should not go unnoticed. Go to the hospital before your scheduled d&c and insist on an ultrasound, make sure they take thier time and really look as you look at the screen. At 12 weeks the heartbeat is very easy to see. If they, nor you can find the heartbeat you will need to accept it. Good Luck Dear.

By the way an ultrasound at 12 weeks is not to early. my3sons has no idea what she is talking about. Weight will not effect and ultrasound either. A doppler heart monitor yes but not an ultrasound.

This has happen to me, I started to bleed and when they check my Hcg blood levels they had went down, so they waited until I pass the fetus and then I had a ultrasound to make sure it pass and the a D&C. If you don't think this is right go and get a second opionion and have them check your Hcg blood levels and see if they went down, because they are suppose to reach a level everyday that you are pregnant. There is hope I am 29 weeks Pregnant now and the baby is doing ok, don't let anyone tell you different, with this baby I had a ultrasound and I was 7 weeks pregnant, and I am also a little overweight, (size 16) I wish you luck and I will pray for you. Good Luck and God bless

Yep, when I was pregnant with my daughter. I had an awesome Dr though who ordered an UltraSound right then. The problem was, she was turned a certain way and we couldn't hear the heart, but could SEE it...
So, if you have Insurance...TELL your Dr you want an UltraSound or if he/she refuses, then go to the ER and tell them you are preg and having problems...they will do one.

12 weeks is a little early for an ultrasound and if you are overweight, a heartbeat can be hard to find early on. i would get a second opinion. Good luck, i wish you all the best.

No, I just wanted to say I'm so very sorry. The first miscarriage I had wasnt discovered until I went in for my 12 week scan (I hadnt bled or anything), there was only a sac left and I had to have a D&C for that too.

Again, so sorry

Please get a second opinion first. Dont rely on what one doctor says. They are not always right. 12 weeks is also a little early for ultrasound. They usually do it between 18 and 21 weeks so that the baby is more developed. I was told horrible things by my doctor about my 2nd son and they were asking me if I wanted to end the pregnancy and everyhting like that and he is perfectly healthy. Hope everyhting is ok for you.

Oh it is horrific, the way you have been dealt with. You undesirable element. it may be unusual to be waiting to hearken to a foetal heartbeat on a doppler as early as 8 weeks. the place I stay no midwife or GP could additionally attempt to hearken to fr a heartbeat till you're a minimum of 12 weeks, yet even then my GP informed me its no longer uncommon for them to no longer be waiting to hearken to it for each week or 2 greater. it is achievable to have UTIs in being pregnant and not comprehend approximately it. it is between the justifications why they dip attempt your urine at each and each ante natal appointment. i do no longer understand why its no longer the comparable as a UTI while no longer pregnant, yet its in simple terms no longer! The antibiotics they have prescribed you're completely risk-free for being pregnant. I even have had countless UTIs early on in this pregancy and ended up on extensive large horse-pill antibiotics! toddler continues to be doing in simple terms large. to date as shifting around is going, you does no longer be waiting to sense any stream till a minimum of sixteen-18 weeks, and a few mums don't sense something till as late as 22 weeks, so quite do no longer hardship approximately that. even when I had my 12 week courting test toddler became no longer shifting in any respect and all that became visibly shifting became the thrashing heart. i think of it may desire to be worth your on an identical time as calling the early being pregnant unit at your community medical institution and explaining each little thing to them. they may be waiting to get you an early ultrasound test and in simple terms enable you notice that little heart beating. (you will see that it on ultrasound formerly you are able to hear it on a doppler.) it would quite positioned your recommendations at relax. sturdy good fortune. xx

I agree with the other posters who said to get a second opinion. If you are heavy-set, it is also much, much harder for them to get a heartbeat through either ultrasound or doppler too.
