I'm going to help you, and show you a group picture of my sister's brownie troop, taken about 1986/7 I think.
As you can see, they are not exactly standardised, but the people above are not far wrong in their descriptions. However, a picture is worth a thousand words as the old saying goes!

The belt and purse were made of brown leather and the purse had a loop at the back that the belt threaded through.I wore the purse at the front right.
Yes the brown wooly hat had a bobble on it.
I'm not sure about the badges cos I wasn't in the brownies very long.

I was a brownie then (in kelpies)
The dress was a pinafore type brown dress with a belt around middle of it with the purse to the brownies left hand side. The neckachief was bright yellow with a button fasten under collar of dress at the back to form a cross at the front. The hat was a knitted brown pompom hat.
The neckachief had a silver badge on it (cant remember the emblem though)
The badge on the front of the dress right hand side was a circular coloured badge of who you belonged to group wise....ie mine was a kelpie
The left arm had the section of brownies you belonged to ie Bradford 112 etc
The right arm had the badges you'd won or gained and they were triangular in shape with rounded edges always brown with yellow motif of whatever subject you'd gained ie Flower for flower arranging etc.
You had to wear brown shoes lace ups and white knee socks too.

Brownie Uniform in 1982 was still a pretty traditional one - brown dress, brown leather belt with a leather pouch. Yellow cross over tie with the silver promise badge on, your specific 'six' badge on the left hand side with 'sixer' or 'seconder' stripes underneath, 'journey' badge (footpath, road, highway I think were the classifications) on the right hand side. Interest badges were on the right hand sleeve (brown triangular ones with yellow stitching) and your pack tape was on the left hand sleeve. And yes, the hat was brown wool with a pom pom. Have a look on ebay, there are sometimes examples of old unitforms and badges.
