If all you said was "you look pretty today" then no that is not sexual harrassment. The teacher also has to warn you that you crossed her boundaries and not to do it again. You can not unwillingly sexually harrass someone. You have to do it willingly that is why it is harrassment. You can offend someone on accident but you cannot accidentally harrass someone. Harrassment is repeated questioning, sexual hand gestures, sexual inquiries, touching, petting both yourself or the other person or removing your clothes for someone under improper circumstances such as public, or workplace, church etc.
It also has to depend on the other persons opinion. If the other person likes it: it is not harrassment, if they do not then they have to tell you and you have to stop. if they warn you and you continue then it is sexual harrassment. if they warn you and you stop and apologize then you have corrected your behavior so you are ok. Obviously physical gestures and verbal gestures are different, physical gestures tend to be LESS irreversable.
I had the same experience and lost a job because a girl lied about me and no one asked me what happened. It happened in a foreign country where the law was poorly written so i couldn't sue her.
If you did not do anything wrong make sure you see a lawyer
Nowadays women use this to get their way and it is illegal and the rap is hard to shake whether you are guilty or not. Be careful and most of all if you are innocent SUE THE DAMN B****!!!

I think it would be a compliment, as long as that is what you mean.I think somethings have gone a little far. I guess you just told the wrong person. I think a teacher was paranoid or something, but I think it is nice to hear you are pretty. Maybe she would rather hear she is ugly. At least you were being honest about how you seen her.If you were trying to come on to her, that would be different. I guess you don't get your freedom of speach. I think there is double standards. Would you of taken it as sexual harassment if it was the other way around?

With all the crap thats gone on in the past with teachers & students having affairs, that was basically a respect issue, and Im sure it sounded like a come on, so, at this point, you should be happy you got only ISS, and not suspension!

If you are in the third grade it's OK. If you are 16 years old, it's totally inappropritate. It is not sexual harrassment unless you are a coworker with the teacher. What is ISS?

I don't think so, but some people are soooooo sensitive these days that a compliment could set them off. If anything, they could of told you to tell her that outside of school - but a detention is a little harsh. I would say read up on your school code. As for that chick - stay away from her - she may be pretty is she worth a detention???

Well, it depends on how it was done
[The following is just role playing, to show what can go wrong]
"Gosh, Peggy Sue, you sure look pretty today."
or
"Gosh, Peggy Sue, the clothes you are wearing are just making me so hot. I think Mr. Trouser Snake may want to come out and play! Do you want to pet him?"
(Sadly, almost anything can be construed as such and when schools are banning the playing of Tag at recess, it may be best just to acknowledge existance only.)
"Hi, Peggy Sue."

The teacher might find your words considered as sexual harassment. People can be very sentitive to words these days which can get you in trouble.

I don't think so. It is inappropriate to tell your teacher that though. She should've just ignored you. Stick to telling girls your own age.

Depends on what words you use. But normally it shouldn't be, it is just a compliment. But as I said depends on how you phrase it
