The way I do it is with baking soda. Works wonders. Wash the pan as best you can. make a paste of baking soda and water, which you can do in the pan. just sprinkle the soda on the burnt parts and add water little by little. hot water is best.
Put pan aside for awhile and check it ever so often. scrape it a little to see if it's ready to scrape off. If it's really thick and burnt you may add alittle vinegar to the paste.

I've run into that.

What I would do is scrape out the excess food that I can. Then while the pan is still hot, I would put in a couple of drops of dish detergent and lots of water and let it soak. Afterwards, I would use baking soda to scrub the pan clean.

Good luck!

First soak it in warm soapy water. If that doesn't loosen it, you can scrub it. If it's glass or teflon, or something you don't want to scratch, use dampened baking soda, and/or a nylon scrub pad. If it's not glass or teflon, and the baking soda and nylon scrub pad don't work, you can always use steel wool. If it's cast iron and none of hte above works, you can put it in an open fire (outside) and burn it off. Then you'll have to re-"season" it - but that's another question.

Do what pro's do and burn it off.

If you leave the saucpan on the hob lod enough with nothing in it all the 'burnt food' will either turn to smoke or , once cooled down will just fall out of the pan when gently tapped.
