comb 100% pure tea tree oil through your hair before bed, then wash it out REALLY well in the morning.
A hairdresser also told me that Frontline, a flea cure for dogs, works really really well, because lice are basically just a flea. I know using products meant for dogs sounds weird and possibly disgusting, but hey, whatever works right?

Experienced from day care centers when my children had gone there.... Well since lice becomes immune to the chemicals and it only stuns them , not kills them ! If you use olive oil over night which will smother the live ones, then wash with shampoo and comb out. Tee tree shampoo helps with the itching and scratching. Bleach everything and wash everything. Also for the hair , blow dry it to help kill the nits. Yes it will be a process but eventualy you will control the problem. Also take your child into the sun light where you will be able to see the nits a lot better to be able to pull them off the hair. Also they do have by RID a lotion that takes the nit paste off or you can dillute vinegar which will do the same thing. Always keep a metal lice comb because of schools

Put some olive oil into tea tree oil shampoo. The oils help smother the lice and make it an unfavorable environment. You'll need a nit comb to fully clear the hair of nits. Clean hair is more favorable for lice. I have a naturally very oily scalp - The kind that if I don't wash my hair EVERY DAY, my scalp gets matty. Most people, it takes a week or more for their hair to get to the kind of oilyness mine gets daily. I NEVER got lice. I was in group homes, schools with major louse problems, etc.

Treat EVERYTHING in your home. Louse removal can get EXPENSIVE. Anything you cannot treat, you MUST get rid of to ensure the infestation is gone.

Continue using oilve oil in tea tree oil shampoo at least a few times a week while children are in school, and you won't see any more lice.

You can combine most of the previous answers, if you have the patience or sanity left to do it: use tea tree conditioner on dry hair and comb through with a nit comb. Or try headrin, a fairly new product in the uk which contains no pesticides, but uses glycerin to "suffocate" the lice to death, available from pharmacies without precription. Or, if you already have some frontline spray in the house for your cat/dogs fleas- ONE or TWO squirts from the spray bottle ONLY (NOT the spot-on stuff) combed through the hair just before bedtime should keep heads lice free for about 6wks, depending on the number of hair washes in between. Obviously, the last suggestion hasn't been tested for this use, but its really safe for pet use so you shouldn't have any problems.

A pharmacist told me when my kids were young that you have to stick with one brand of stuff - chopping and changing makes the chemicals not do the job. I'm sure they are working but the art is to remove every egg - miss one or two and they all hatch and the problem is back. It helps to comb conditioner through the hair to remove alot of the eggs prior to washing hair - then use the lotion - then comb again regularly until they've gone. If unsure, ask he advice of your doctor he might be able to prescribe something stronger or at least have a chat with the pharmacist and explain the problem. Inform the school as well - lots of infestations come back through an untreated child in the class.x

you need to look up Head Lice on the net. My children got lice for the first time a month ago eeeek!!! I used everything and spent so much money on sprays for my house with no luck, finally i looked it up and learned that a lot of medicines don't work and some that do don't really keep them from coming right back or necessarily kill all the eggs and spraying ur house is pointless. get yourself a lice comb, put your children in the tub wash there hair as normal then conditioner (don't rinse the conditioner out yet) then take a regular comb and remove all tangles, then take the lice comb thru the hair several times rinsing the comb with each time, rinse the conditioner out. take your child to good light and manually remove all eggs or any live bugs you may have missed with the comb (won't be many), throw them in the trash or sink (take out trash or rinse out sink with hot water.) throw their bed covers in the dryer for a while and any stuffed animals wash all clothes you and the children wore. don't forget to throw the pillows in the dryer as well. vaccuum your floors and couch if its fabric and their mattress. then daily repeat the lice comb procedure and manual removal if needed, within a couple of days it should be all gone. good luck, this is the only thing that worked for me.

My wife is a teacher so has seen this problem a lot. If you dont want to use toxic/ insecticide based products then: 1) Get a nit comb. 2) Cover the hair all over with regular mayonnaise, not low fat, and put clingfilm on top to cover it for a couple of hours. Use lots of mayo-- nothing survives a lack of oxygen. But it wont kill the eggs. 3) Use conditioner in hair to make it harder for the nit eggs to attach to the hair.. 4) Some parents use hair straighteners, the heat kills the nits-- nothing survives being incinerated. Not even the eggs. One brand is on offer at Argos at the moment. Follow these tips and the nits stand no chance!

There is only 1 way to get rid of them and that is to comb them out with a lice comb. I use to do this with my daughter sitting in the bath and her hair covered in conditioner. You need a good comb a metal one with very fine teeth and you need to go through the hair section by section. If the hair is quite long you can fasten it up on the top and let small sections down at a time. Make sure that you use plenty of conditioner. Do this at least twice a week to ensure you have got rid of them all and also the eggs when they hatch. My daughter caught lice over and over again whilst at primary school and this is the only way to get rid of them.

Wash your hair normally, but leave your conditioner on the wet hair. Run your nit comb through the hair. Place kitchen roll around the shoulders and it is useful for keep wiping the comb. Repeat this for a couple of days. Try tea tree shampoo and conditioners (asda do a good one that's cheap). In every school there are nits. They might be brought in by a 'dirty' child but they like clean hair. You will never get rid of them in one go unless you want your child to have a reall y sore head.

the shampoo treatments don't work by themselves...i used to volunteer at a youth center and everyone ended up getting infested...about 30 people, myself and most of the other staff included. besides treating your head, you have to treat your bedding, couches, pillows, stuffed animals, and clothing. Lice also live and breed in fabrics...we had the little buggers crawling on the couches and in the carpet at the center. You'll need to buy the stuff to treat your home, stick any stuffed animals and pillows in an airproof bag with the treatment spray for a week, and wash all your clothing and bedding in hot water. If you have any pets, get them cleaned, too. Just getting rid of it on your head doesn't help if you can reinfect yourself from fabrics.
