I am asking because I heard on the news this morning that ex Spice Girl Mel C is touring Portugal and Germany (and doing very well too!). I presume she has to learn her songs in the language of the country that she visits? Woudn't this ruin any rhyming parts of her songs? I have wondered this for a while and wondered if anyone could enlighten me! Thanks!

No, bands and artist still perform in english, etc... Japan LOVES American artists but want to hear the songs in english, the way they hear them on the radio... so does every other country... see they get to know the song in its original context and even though they may not know what the words are about, they get into the rhythm and mood of the song. :-)

Even foreign musicians will sing songs in English (Abba for example) because that's where the real money market is located. We English speaking people (not just USA, but England, Australia, New Zealand, et al) prefer songs soong in English. And since we comprise the largest combined spending power, must groups try to appeal to the largest audience. From my experiences overseas, those speaking other languages learn popular English-sung songs in English. That's why practically every young person in the world knows at least a few English words!

no because they have all thier music copyrighted in thier own language which means they will continue to perform the songs in the language they copyrighted it in. this way no one can sing thier song with out their permission. If you ever go to a foreign country you will notice that all the songs are done in thier original recording language. And beside i doubt that a band like metallica could do master of puppets in korean or japanese!! ahahah

I saw Metallica in Korea and the concert rocked!!!!!!!!!

and yes it was all in english

Often times it will ruin the timing of the song. Worse than that, in order to preserve the rhythm of the song in the new language you have to change the meaning of the lyrics.

Most often musicians will perform their songs in the language it was written.

they don't continuously translate their songs. They get common a similar way absolutely everyone else receives common. If the song is powerful and the generic public likes it then that's going to likely be a fulfillment regardless of the language that's executed in.
