We are social animals - therefore we have an inclusive bias. We are quick to include something into a group. We look for similarities. We like repetition of what we like. We are averse to change. All these traits show our inclusive bias in logic. Hence if one French movie was nice, the French make nice movies.
Good question and certainly can belong in this section rightfully.

People are emotional and fail to be logical as they don't use their head, but their heart.
If one uses his/her heart, he/she fails to see the logic. So, in a person's small universe they will make a leap on emotion that is not logical.
Your art movement is such an example, people make the decision and then extrapolate that it does not have value. The logic is that what is rejected as new movement can be an improtant movement as it can be an unimportant movement. There are two speheres where the art movement can be in, in portant or unimportant. There is also rejected and unrejected.
so, some new art movements are important and rejected
some new art movements are unimportant and rejected
some new art movements are unimportant and rejected
some new art movements are important and accepted.
If you draw four circles you will have the universe of your answers. This means that some are true and some can be false but none have to be in one of the 4 categories.

Psychology is a section that can accommodate human behaviour.
People could seem to be illogical when the judgement is intuitional.
Suppose a beautiful person falls in love with an ugly person of opposite sex, it may seem 'illogical' to some people, who think logically, but intuition is also an aspect of mind, which seeks expression through emotions. Such emotions when verbalised, often seems illogical, since reasoning fails to be cohesive in the acceptable logical manner.

Logical is a relative term, so is illogical. Logical decisions are not same as correct decisions. To understand this, one should have a good understanding about how human brains work. "To error is human." why? The answer lies in the imperfects of our brain - the brain is powerful, but fallible. We make all kinds of mistakes while we think we are totally logical. So, don't be surprised to see smart ones making a big stupid mistakes, in our private and public life. Also, be careful when you are making a big decision. Our brains are not reliable all the time. Use your brain and others!

Art should make people think.Regardless of the amount and level.its regarded by most that if they dont understand it then it is instantly stupid/crap/unimportant and this is wrong. Its that whole "i could have done that myself" media driven ignorance that people fall into like the sheep that they are. They're only happy if they look at a painting of a tree for instance "and it really looks like a tree".F**king idiot.Go outside and look at a real one.
Right im gettin off me soapbox now.lol

People are flawed, therefore some of what they say will be flawed as well. It is not uncommon for someone to create a false line of reasoning to support their beliefs. Sometimes this is done on a subconscious level, but not always.
Remember also - art appreciation is very subjective and tastes vary greatly.

You have misinterpreted the artist's argument.
He is not saying that his works MUST be art since it being dismissed as crap. What he is saying that it is at least POSSIBLE for it to be art and gives an example in support.
Perfectly logical! It takes just one example to show possibility.

It is because people choose to see the world in a way that confirms the way they think.
So Christan's would see a recovery of a serious illness as an act of God, to others it would be a scientific marvel.
It is all to do with perception, what is illogical to you is another person truth.

Excellent... I know virtually nothing of philosophy, yet have pondered this issue many times...
Similarly I wonder why just because we ban a type of music that it is suddenly the latest greatest thing among the youth of the day...
I mean... I like art... but just for the sake of the art itself... not because of who has produced it... or the statement that it purports to send...
My boss regularly tells me to do work that I know is not time effecient, yet despite my explanations and protestations, he insists that it is his way or the highway....

Most feel that if one is true, it should work in the opposite direction as well. It's really an assumption without examination of details.
It takes certain level of intelligence to be able to see the difference.
