Pushups are good if you want tone. Pushups are equivalent to benching approx. 60% of your body weight. However, I need to sound off, they DO NOT WORK YOUR BICEPS. Biceps are a PULLING muscle that moves your hands towards the muscle. They do however work your chest, shoulders, triceps and abs (+your back stabilizing muscles).

Push-ups work the entire upper body, and they will tone and strengthen muscles. There is more than one way to do a push-up:
If you are a beginner, you can do the push-up on your knees. Otherwise, use the typical plank position. If you are looking for more difficulty, go on the balls of your feet.
The standard position is with hands directly under your shoulders. Move them a little closer than that. Thumbs should be touching.
Concentrate on the heel of your palm and bring it down. It really hits the tricep and shoulder muscles. Bring it down a few inches at a time. Down, pause and press it up. You are really going to feel it.
The up position is where you are going to contract the tricep. Bring it down and press it up. Be careful not to let your back sag or bend out.
Now, for a little more of a broad move and more shoulder work, place the hands outside of the shoulders. This is a little more difficult. Be careful if you have any shoulder problems.
Each time you go down, try to get a little bit lower. Again, concentrate on the palms. When you are down, your head goes up. When you’re up, your head goes down.
Push-ups work the entire upper body. Keep in mind, you can go on your knees and do a modified one for beginners, or if you get tired.
Push-ups can be done every single day as long as you are not sore. Aim for four sets. Work up from two sets to 15.

Push ups might be the single best muscle exercise there is. It strengthens your chest muscles and biceps, and builds endurance.
