First of all, your screen has a DUAL mode. One HIGH power for when you are PLUGGED IN and a LOW power for when you are running on batteries. Look in your Control Panel for these display options.
Look for the BLUE Brightness and Contrast buttons along the row of function keys. Look at the BLUE FUNCTION Button near the SHFT and ALT keys. HOLD the FUNCTION button, then tap the brightness and/or contrast buttons to make simple adjustments.
Good luck

What type of laptop is it?
or may be that dont matter..... On the keypad/keyboard, there should be some thing like a shining sun. am using a toshiba, and those lights are on the F keys....... if u hold down the Fn key simultaneous with the f ky that has that sun with an upward arrow, it will be brighter.
Alternatively, go to control panel, there should be something to do with your power/battery saver. change the battery settings to full power!

You probably need to hold down the "FN" key and look for other keys on the keyboard that maybe look like a little lightbulb or something.
Also try going to the manufacturers web sight and download the owners manual for your machine
