First travel from Delhi to Chennai (Madras) - by plane, or train.
Chidambaram is a city and a municipality, in the Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu, 11 km from the coast and 335 km south of Chennai by rail.
Chidambaram is situated on the Madras-Tiruchirapalli main line of the Southern Railway, and there are frequent express trains from Chennai Egmore, to reach it.
There are also frequent Express Bus services, run by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, which start from the Moffusil Bus Terminus at Koyampedu, Chennai - which will reach you there.
...Annamalainagar, where the Annamalai University is located, is a busy and full-fledged University town some 3 km east of Chidambaram.

Take Mangalore - Chennai express and alight at Vridachalam and take a bus to Chidambaram (you will be arriving around 1:00 a.m.) or Take Jan Shatabdi express and alight at Mayiladuthurai and take buses to Chidambaram (you will be arriving around 2:00 p.m.). This would be your best choice.

first get to Chennai by AirDeccan or SpiceJet or Kingfisher or JetAirways or Indian.
From the airport, go to CMBT(Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus) here you can take a bus to Chidambaram (4 hour journey),and once you are in chidambaram, you could take an auto to the university.
