Perhaps if straight men can get over the idea that you cannot become gay through osmosis, and that not every gesture of friendship is a threat to their masculinity.

They can if there are certain rules that are respected. The most important one: Respect the privacy of other men living in your residential area. (And I am assuming here that when you say "live together" you mean that in a literal sense.) Adult males of every orientation already do this in college dorms, military schools, seminaries, etc. This is nothing new. And for the most part, I doubt if each one knows what the orientation of the others even are -- some people are out and some aren't -- same as larger society.

Warped, men who live like this (and yes, they do) usually aren't concerned about the other guy's orientation. That's a private matter. Yes, roommate issues do come up, especially when company comes over, but each situation is handled on an individual basis. The key is always one thing: respect for the individual and for the residential community as a whole.

Bottom line: When you are pretty much forced to live together as a residential unit, you set aside learned prejudices and live together in peace so the unit (neighborhood or community) can function in a healthy manner.

I don't really think it is possible but one piece of advice i can give you is= gay men do make strait men often very uncomfortable. For one reason is many times if you are seen with a few gay men others think you are gay. The second reason is the really feminine gays are usually obnoxious, loud, and very over bearing.

If you can just be cool and normal and go on about your life i think you will be ok. I have a few gay friends and they are not the femmy overbearing gays that gays are labeled with. They do thier thing and i do mine. They respect my boundaries and I respect their boundaries. They don't make me feel uncomfortable and don't try to act over feminine. I don't really think it is the being gay most times that bothers people it is the behavior!!!

Yes, it is a cultural thing and cultures change.
Look in the past, look for example at the Romans and the Greek, and also in Europe it is only for a few centuries that being gay is demonized and banned.
In most old cultures it was something that was accepted.

There will always be straight men who for whatever reason don't like homosexuals.

In ancient times it wasn't considered a bad thing, so once the right-wing Christian furor over homosexuality dies down, it will be acceptable again. However, it's anyone's guess how long that will take.
