My friend cannot work because he is prone to seizures but he has been going from one social worker to another trying to get help. He also cannot pay for his medications and the hospital bills but the creditors are hounding him. What can he do? He lives in Southern California if that helps.

I agree with those people who suggest applying for social security disability. Call for an appointment to file. You must have medical proof of the condition includiong medical records. If you dont have any then the federal government will send you to one of their doctors for proof. Also having a lawyer do it is a waste of money. I did it myself and the process took under 2 months for me.

As far as Medicare...you dont qualify for Medicare until 2 years after you start receiving Disability benefits. That is the same no matter what state you live in.

His best bet is to hire a Lawyer and seek Social Security Disability, most lawyers do this for a Contengency fee. The lawyer might help ward off the Bill Collectors too. He can get Medical help from a Hill Burton Facility , near free- and his drugs, for a co pay.

He can also get meds from Needymeds.com, Drug companies will give free drugs, but must get a Prescription from Doctor to send them.

He should call the Social Security Administration and make an appointment to apply for SSD (Social Security Disability). It is kind of a long process so be prepared to hang in. Along with the regular monthly payments he will recieve Medicare. At least that's how it works in Michigan.

well, he needs to cut up his credit cards and stop using them. Then he needs to file for social security disability assistance. It can take a LONG time to kick in. Then he probably also needs to see if he can get medicaid.

But I strongly suspect there are some possible jobs he can handle, depending on the frequency & severity of the seizures.

has he applied for Social Security Disability? If not, tell him to see the lawyer and apply for SSID....it might help if he talks to a non-profit credit counselor as well...they should be able to help get the bill collectors off his back without having to file for bankruptcy...good luck to him.

1. It seems that social services does not think he is disabled!
2. Stop bill collectors by PAYING your bills!

Look in the Yellow Pages for a disability lawyer, I am sure they can point you in the right direction.
