Phosphorus is used to prepare
*tetraoxophosphate(V) acid, H3P04 and trioxophosphate(III) acid, H3PO3 and their salts which are mainly used as fertilizers.
Phosphorus is used in the making of certain tin and bronze alloys like phosphor-bronze. These alloys are used for the manufacture of machine parts such as gears, bearings and parts exposed to sea water to enable them to resist wear and corrosion.
White phosphorous is used in the smoke and incendiary bombs and fireworks.
The sides of the match-box is coated with red phosphorus and a combustible substance, usually antimony sulphide.
Organo-phosphorus compounds are used in weed-killers, rat-poisons, insecticides and oil additives
Tetraphosphates(V), NaH2PO4, Na2HPO4 and Na3PO4 are mainly used in the manufacture of fertilizers as mentioned earlier.
Tetraoxophosphate(V) acid and its salts are used in processed foods and drinks and in the making of baking powder and self-raising flour. This acid and its salts are also used in
making enamels, glazes for pottery, refining petroleum, fireproofing textiles and timber, rustproofing steel articles before painting and finally as catalysts, water-softeners and detergents.

Phosphorus is very dangerous.
The Israeli army have been using it for years. Very nasty stuff - extremely bad chemical burns occur when it comes into contact with skin. Also, Phosphorus ignites on contact with air producing a noxious gas, this gas can cause damage to soft tissue such as eyes, throat lungs etc...
