I've been there quite a bit for work, and as long as you stay to the main streets and areas, you're fine. I know there are some rough areas, but for the most part, Stockton is ok. It is a growing community as everyone from the Bay Area is spreading out and buying houses out that way.

I grew up on Stockton.
I must admit that the few bad stories seemed to have given Stockton a bad reputation.
I left Stockton for college in 1994. My life and career has taken me away from Stockton, but I often return for famliy gatherings. I must say that Stockton has been really growing and becoming even better. The new downtown stadium and arena and the sports venues are great. It seems that the once sleepy farming town featured in the TV show The Big Valley has become a remote suburb of the Bay Area. The extra large super size houses seem to be in large quantity. Seems like a good place to me. The commute to the Bay Area can be tough.

Uh...NO. Shootings, murders, strong arm robberies, and horrible roads. I had to go there once, and yes I live near the area, but there is no way I would live there. Go 10 miles north to Modesto and there's Scott Peterson's family!

It's a grungy city.
