Sachin's record as an opener is impeccable. Please remember that he had started hitting centuries only after becoming the opener and hasn't looked back ever since. One down position requires someone, who is the backbone of the team, can provide stability to the team and carry on all along - which at this moment to my mind is best suited for Rahul Dravid - The Wall

Actually better option will be either at No. 3 or 4 for Sachin as India need a solid and batsman capable scoring quick runs in the middle and slog overs

I don't think so because Sachin plays the role of an anchor man in the current team.The inform Sachin and Sehwag make a fearsome pair as openers and it still instills confidence in Sehwag.I think Dravid would be the most suitable and appropriate man for the one-down position
