I've just read on the Yahoo home page that George Best's mug is going to be featured on the £5 note.
The bloke was a womanising pissed up waster, why don't they just put Sid James on there and be done with it? At least he made us laugh.

If the Northern Irish government wanted to honour a REAL sporting hero/legend they should have chosen the late, great Joey Dunlop MBE OBE

He was a great footballer but a terrible example to youngsters with his drinking and womanising.
They'll be thinking of the same for David Beckham next . Hmmm, maybe not because he'd insist the first 20 million printed should go to him!
Now how about Maggie Thatcher on a £5 note, that's a thought!

The printing of local banknotes featuring local celebrities is a tradition here in the North of Ireland. George Best was an international celebrity before the drink destroyed him.
We are obviously more understanding and forgiving than our near neighbours across the water.

Its only on the Ulster £5 (so you wont see one unless you go to Nortern Ireland) - plus they are only making 1 million notes.
i know he had his faults towards the end - but the guy was a football ledgend - and by far the best think that has come out of Northern Ireland in a long while
i personally think it is nice that the local govenments have all supported this.

That's nothing. I hear they're going to rename Newcastle Airport "Gazza International" and put up a 50ft high statue in front of the Welsh Assembly building of Charlotte Church falling out of a taxi!

I agree...i can think of soo many better people to put on the note. Not someone who yes had a career, but wasted hospital treatment on failing kidneys as he continued to drink. random!

It's meant to be a giant tribute to Gearge Best. Because he was such a good footballer who died recently, they thought he would be a good idea. I saw it on the Yahoo! Home page as well.
