The only way I could be myself would be if I was a different person. (joking, of course)

sorry to admit, but im a different person around different people. im usually "myself" when im with friends that are really close to me and family. but sometimes i just pretend to like something or be someone so that a particular person will like me.

I was taught in high school that everyone wears a mask all the time, though different masks depending on the situation you'rte in. If you're with your parents, you'd behave differently than you would if you'd be with colleagues or friends.. And so you can only be yourself when you find yourself alone.

Mind you I think is bullshit. There are people who do feel a need to keep up appearances wherever they go and whoever they talk to, but it's not entirely natural behaviour to fit yourself with an attitude that depends on who you're with. Surely what you talk about and how you talk about it may change a bit, but is one ever someone else than himself?

I find it very easy to be myself around close friends. However, when it comes to people that I don't know very well, I guess I usually find myself trying to act a certain way, in an attempt to impress them.

I believe that there is also a difference between not being yourself, and trying to change yourself into something you truly want to be. For example, I'm not very outgoing, but that is something I am trying to change. So when I'm around people, I tend to be more outgoing than usual. Technically I'm not being myself, but since I'm doing it for myself and not for other people, I think it's justified.

If I am with my family and close group of friends, they know me to be a really funny person -- without really intending to -- and I can really laugh out loud to my heart's content.

BUT

If I am with my bosses, I am professional and tend to be a bit reserve in my actions but they can still see the sincerity in me.

In both given situations, I am being myself.

I believe that we all have different facets of our "self" which we choose to reveal to different groups of people. But there is also a general "self" which everyone knows about us.

However, when you act in a certain way which you know is contrary to what you would normally do and who you know yourself to be, then you know for a fact that: YOU ARE NOT BEING YOURSELF.

i like being myself. and i hate people forcing me not to be myself. and when i am being myself, i get a lot of criticism and suggestion that i am stuck up etc. i find them very unecessary and annoying. i can make decision for myself. why can't i just decide for myself what i should like or what i should not like for myself? i don't understand. i just love being myself. i just find them not understanding. and when i am angry, i really feel like hitting someone. that is being myself. yes, i am temperamental. i hate to pretend to be somebody else just trying to impress others. actually i am not stuck up. why can't they just zip up their mouth and stop judging. offering opinion or advise is good, but criticising is bad.

I am being myself since I can't be someone else. I can be myself pretending to be someone else though.
