Hi all,

I take great pride in my jeans. My dowfall is denim jeans and I've been known to spend a lot on them!

Anyway.. just wondering if anyone could tell me whats the best way to wash my jeans to avoid colour run and shrinkage.

I usually wash a few pairs together or similar colour, each turned inside out in my washing machine. After drying them (often over a radiator) they're usually quite stiff and take a couple of wears to get them back to normal.

Any denim washing / drying tips greatly appreciated x

Hi--

Well, you are probably washing them in cold water. The only other thing I can think of is you may want to invest in a drying rack instead of the radiator. The heat from that could shrink them too.

Best of luck!

Your on the right track. Wash inside out in cold water on the gentle cycle with detergent and a little white vinegar, that will keep the color from running and fading and add liquid fabric softener. If you don't have a fabric softener dispenser downy sells fabric balls which you fill wit liquid softener and throw in the washer. Works great. Put them in the dryer on fluff or knits/delicate cycle if your machine has that feature. If not dry them on regular for 20 minutes or less and then just hang over a chair till dry.

well my advice would be that despite the fact that the laws of... soemthing say that 'cold shrinks things' you are MUCH more likely to shrink ur jeans washing them in hot water. also u need to dry them on a rack not pin them up as the waist can stretch (trust me... not a good look) and i think most jeans will lose a bit of colour on their first and/or second wash just because of the contact with water. but if you use a mild and biodegradable powder or such it wont b so harsh on the jeans, or use non at all.

I'm the same way with my jeans. It's so hard to find a good fit, once I find them I want them to last! I use Woolite on the gentle cycle w/ cold water and I dry on low heat for just a little while, then I lay them out to finish drying.

gentle wash in cold water and delicate in the dryer will give you softer jeans than using the radiator, I prefer to dry mine outside on the line, if you get your jeans really dirty you'll have to wash them more severely.

add vinegar (white) to the laundry.

if you add one cup on white vinegar to 1/2 detergent the FIRST washing, the color fading will not be noticeable. as long as you are doing everything else you said (inside out , cold water, no dryer)

relies upon on the paint. you will have chosen something which you have defined cleansing guidelines for. maximum paints, in the event that they stay to tell the tale the bathing area won't "soften" interior the dryer. you have got handy wash and carry dry.
