First, the present-day state of Israel has NOTHING to do with the Israel mentioned in the Bible. The modern Israel is a political entity set up in Palestine by European and Russian Jews with support by the British beginning almost 100 years ago and given impetus by the Balfour Declaration of November, 1917. Prior to that time the present conflict as we know it did not exist. The idea of "chosen people" and "promised land" is largely Jewish propaganda and has not much at all to do with the present conflict except as an attempt by the Jews to justify it.
When the Jews began their large scale exodus into Palestine in the early 1900s, the land had been predominately occupied by Arabs for hundreds of years. By about 1900 the population was about 80% Arab, 10% Christian, and 10% Jewish. There had been no conflicts of any importance between Jews and Arabs prior to the invasion of Russian and European Jews in the 1900s.
By the time Israel was formally established in 1948, the Zionists had destroyed hundeds of Arab villages, over 400 in the period 1948-1949 alone and displaced many tens of thousands of Arab inhabitants from their homes. This is a period for which the Jews have developed collective amnesia, and whose revisionist history has largely twisted around and ignored. If you wanted to date a beginnning of the conflict it would have to be 1917 when the British began pushing for a Jewish 'homeland' in Palestine. (At that time Britain had a problem with Jewish immigrants similar to the illegal Mexican immigrant problem in the US today. The uproar in Britain was that the Jewish immirgants were taking jobs from British citizens, so Britain needed to find a way to get rid of them, and Palestine was the answer, hence the Balfour Declaration.)
The Arab Israeli conflict is about 80 years old and is the direct result of British colonialism in the Middle East. One of the last gasps of the British Empire was the drawing of completely arbitrary boundaries for a place called Iraq, which created problems that are still being felt today. Biblical quotes about the land of Palestine being promised to Israel refer to a totally different Israel than the one on the maps today and there is no relationship at all between them other than the spelling of the name.

I'm not good enough at typing to give you a full explaination here. I suggest you Google it. But the Readers Digest version goes like this. Post WWII the UN sanctioned two states (Nations) Israel and Palestine from what was known as the Trans Jordan region, loosely based on the Balfore agreement before then.
The Arab nations refused to recognise either of them. They couldn't recognise Palestine because to recognise Palestine would have been tacit recognition of the borders of Israel. And they definitly weren't about to recognise Israel by itself.
The Arab nations tried to wipe Israel off the map twice and were beaten twice(and lost more land in the process). Although many Arab nations still don't recognise Israel as a nation they have quit trying to openly destroy Israel. Many groups haven't given up trying to destroy Israel.
Like I said Google it. Some would say the whole thing got stated when Moses caught the Egyptians in the water trap at the Red Sea. But it could be just there are a bunch of people who just don't want to play well together.

At the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a dispute over land and borders.
It started in 1948 when Israel was created,by a UN resolution,in Palestine, which at that time was under a British mandate. The Arab countries around didn't accept the decision and the next day they attacked the new created state.Israel won this war.In 1967 Israel attacked Syria,Egypt and Jordan in a pre-emptive war. They occupied and annexed to Israel Gaza Strip, the Sinai Peninsula, the West Bank of the Jordan River (including East Jerusalem), and the Golan Heights.Millions of Palestinians ended up living in UN's refugees camp in Lebanon
There are 3 UN resolution that ask Israel to end the occupation on the Palestinians territories and the other territories that they occupied in 1967 ,but the Israelis refuse to do it...
Since then Palestinians are living under Israeli occupation and they are refused even the elementary rights any human should have...
They are fighting for land and for their right to exist...Israel pretends that it must be recognize by the Palestinian government, while Israel totally refuse to recognize the right to existence of millions of Palestinians...

After WW2 and all of the ineffective Jews that HItler massacred, the international desperate that the Jews mandatory a native land. SO instead of giving them a place in Germany, they desperate "howdy why no longer provide them Palestine?" who cares if there are a gaggle of brown-skinned human beings already living there? regrettably, in assessment to the close by individuals who had the comparable factor take place to them, The Palestinians did no longer go away. to place issues in perspective, via fact the 1940's much less then 3000 Israeli's have been killed with the help of Palestinians, 3 hundred Palestinians have been killed with the help of Israel interior the final week

Well folks above got most it just right. A summary and I mean a brief summary of modern history is sort of like this:
Decades ago some of the Middle East nations decide the want Israel out...started a war...got there but kicked...Israel took land around them not granted in the UN charter as a buffer zone against aggressive nations...Palestinians were displaced into horrible refugee camps...aggressive nations didn't want Palestinians in their countries so left them there for the most part...militant Palestine's groups formed, basically terrorist groups or freedom fighters depending on your point of view...resulting in lots of death....Other nations attempt to solve problem...Palestine offered over 90% of demands they turn it down...More death on both sides...Palestine loses leader...elect a militant group into government...more death and kidnappings and a civil war between Palestine factions...and the mess keeps rolling on.

Israelis and Palestinians both claim that the territory they occupy was granted to them by God as "the promised land." This territory was promised by God to the descendents of Abraham; however, Abraham had two sons -- Ishmail and Isaac. Ishmail became the father of the Arabs and Palestinians, while Isaac became the father of the Jewish nation. So you see, Jews and Palestinians both hail from the same patriarch (Abraham), and their territorial fights are the result of a sibling rivalry that has been going on for thousands of years.

it goes back to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 C.E. The Israelites were taken off as captives to Rome and left the area desolate for centuries. The Muslims come in and see that the land is quite uninhabited so they take it and settle it- finders keepers. Centuries later, the Jews want their land back to create a Jewish state in 1949. Too late- the Palestinians (what the Arab settlers called themselves) were so used to living there for centuries that they coukdn't give up their newfound land. Yet Jews argue that they were there first, so it's theirs. It's all a game of tug-of-war and 'who was there first.'

For starters they are both tribes of the two sons of Moses. As a result they both lay claim to the land as being their inheritance. Peace will never be accomplished because family feuds are always the worst especially between half-brothers.

Simple answer to a complex question:
They both consider the same strip of land known as Israel their holy land (Jews=Israelites, Muslims=Palestinians). Both of them want to live in the holy land, and right now Israelites have it, and Palestinians want it.
Hope it helps!

Its becoz when an Palestinian looks at himself in the mirror...he sees himself the Jew...and visa versa!
They both are born from the same roots...for thousands of years since the Pharoahs! Its part of history lets face it. Its sometimes hard to differentiate one from the other....familiarity breeds comtempt!
