I agree with the other writers here. It has gone far too far and has done so (been doing so) for far too long. I sometimes wonder what drives the whole process - is it the "disadvantaged group" complaining about certain words and practices who are caved in to by spineless mealy-mouthed bureaucrats (yeah, i know, "spineless", "mealy-mouthed" and "bureaucrat" is redundant) or is it driven by the other side of the coin, well-meaning do-gooders who think "the group" MIGHT be disadvantaged or feel unfairly put-upon and so act proactively to prevent perceived hurt feelings? Either way, 1) there is too much wrong with this world to be burning so much energy worrying about vocabulary and 2) being tolerant in allowing them (whoever "they" may be) to have their language, rites, respect for their ethnicity and so forth shouldn't mean, much less does it necessarily mean, we have to denigrate or sacrifice our own.

Political correctness has gone to new highs in lows. When you can't say Merry Christmas, when your child can't enjoy Christmas break at school, when the Easter vacation that we all grew up with is now just another long weekend off of school. The list goes on and on....and frankly it is way to tiresome to continue to list all the offensives that are so offensive... I wish people would quit worrying about PC and start treating the world around them with a little more compassion and respect. If we all did that then we wouldn't need PC or all the crud that comes with it....

I do believe it is out of hand and will probably never be reigned back in.
I think it isn't so much what you say but how or why you say it (the motivation behind it) I have a few friends whom I refer to as black bastards and they call me white trash (both in jest).
I understand that not everone would agree to being called these names and thats fine, but I didn't call YOU anything!!
Thats between me & them and if it doesn't bother us why should a perfect stranger get offended for us?
If I call a mate an ugly prick are the ugly people gunna start jumping up and down?
live n let live I say!

Yes.
When born Americans must learn Spanish to get good jobs it is out of control. I work with Asians, Africans, and Europeans from non-English speaking countries. They all learn the language here.
I know of a person who applied for a job that stated he must be bi-lingual, he was, but was dismissed from the job when it was found out that his second language was German, The company did not make a distinction when saying they needed bi-lingual people.
So I think PC is BS

some ex.. have, but when it comes to people and their nationalities, like native american and indian, and people dont want to respect that group to call them their correct name, i think they have gone too far. afro amerians and jamaicans arent the same just b/c they are both black, indians and pakistanis arent the same either. so many american are too lazy to care about these issues and write them off as going too far b/c they are requires to change their ways just a little bit.
