depends on the movie. Star Wars takes many months because they have to add in all the special effects and such.
Bigger the movie (effects and such) more work to get it organized.

Down to budgetary constraints.
CGI.
Musical score.
Audio dub.
Loads of technical stuff.
Editing is the most laborious part of film-making and there's no set period of how long it can take.
If this is from a larger company, the film will already have been scheduled for cinema release so if you start from that point, you might be able to find out.
If it's British then the budget of four pounds fifty and a voucher for McDonald's will ensure it will be edited by Friday.

It depends whether you mean just the picture editing, or the entire post-production process ie. picture, sound, effects, creating materials etc.

Assuming you mean the whole process from finishing shooting through to final materials then a typical British movie on a relatively low budget (eg. £3-4m) might take 20 weeks.

Big blockbusters can take 9 months to a year (or even more) depending upon release schedules, the power of the director and how much of a mess they made during the shoot.
