India’s contribution to world peace is significant. The tallest of all leaders had been M K Gandhi, most popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi. His unique concept of nonviolence and civil disobedience had been such a potent force that it forced the British out of Indian soil. Jawaharlal Nehru was a true follower of Gandhi. From his time onwards India had been following a path of non-alignment and this led to the creation of third force in the world. In early sixties, India suffered at the hands of China because of Nehru’s excessive adherence to peaceful coexistence doctrine. His daughter Indira Gandhi too followed her father’s path but in the changing scenario, she adopted a bit tough and pragmatic stand. Even during the last two decades India has shown extreme fortitude in the face of gravest provocation from Pakistan by inciting poor Kashmir muslims to take up the unnecessary cause simply to foment communal disturbance. Had India been half as steeled, things would have been different.

In recent times except for Ghandi quotes not much. India has enough troubles at home that they do not assist much in UN operations. It is the US or Europe who shows up and helps at disasters. Who sends food overseas and provides doctors to third world nations. The Peace prize is a European prize. The US, Europe, China and Russia are active in international negotiations to settle disputes between nations. India lacks firepower, economic power and interest at this time. The economic power might well soon change. Militarily I don't see India becoming a major power soon. If they did it'd scare China and Pakistan and peace is the last thing that would ensue.
