Though India made Test Debut in 1932, India could register first test victory only in 1952.
India registered its first Test Victory against England in the 5th Test of the 1951/52 Test series, played at Chepauk, Madras from 6th to 10th February, 1952 under the Captaincy of V.S. Hazare.. It was a 5 Test series. First 3 Tests were drawn and 4th Test was won byEngland and they were leading the series 1-0.
In the Fifth Test England were all out for 266 Runs. In reply India declared at 457 runs for 9 Wickets. In the 2nd Innings, England were all out for 183 runs and India won the Match with an Innings and 8 runs and levelled the series.
The highlights of the Match were:
12 Wickets taken by Vinoo Mankad (8 wickets in first innings
and 4 wickets) in 2nd Innings.
Centuries by Pankaj Roy 111 Runs and 130 runs Not out by P.R. Umrigar in India's first Innings.
